so what i want is to give my rules for entries and my charts and indicators for anyone who is interested in the sharky style of scalping. to start i use a 4 range chart to trade with and an 11 range chart to see the long trend and to help me with my entries. on my 11 range chart if my 14 zerolag 1 adx has plotted i look to see what color my candle is,what color the jt stat is,what color the macd is,and what color my 7 zero lag dma is.if everything tells me to go long then i only take longs on my 4 range and vise versa. i always try to trade with the jt stat on my 11 range for entries and i use the 4 range jt stat to help with exits look at my charts for more on that,if my jt stat on my 11 range is green then i look for a entrie on my 4 range, then when my jt stat turns even alittle red on my 4 range i start looking for a exit. my method of trading is looking for a break up or break down out of a consolidation period. some traders draw a support line in chop and trade when the price breaks above that or below that,it's what im doing also but im letting the adx automatically plot it for me so i dont have to draw it everytime myself.

It's always interesting to see how others approach the market. Thanks for sharing.

Have you looked at your scapling methodology across other instruments and how does it hold up?

Sharky,

You might also consider starting a Social Group specifically for your "followers", or people that are trading your method or interested in learning it.

You can then stay very organized, have discussion groups within your community, etc.

Thank Sharky, ...

and I thought I was up to date with settings. Apparently I missed the last changes.

I got some questions on the the third chart in the first post.
I can see the entries afterwards, but if this were a running chart...

- I think I might have tried an entry at 07.40 seeing it as a failed pullback and ECO positive and bottom bars blue.
Or does it disqualify for you as there was no consolidation white dot yet?

_ At 8.05 I would have taken a trade seeing ZN coming up through consolidation. I see afterwards that it was a 'no trade zone' based on a very flat ECO, but how do you see/sense that you are entering chop?
Same at 9.39 how do you know you are in chop.
After 3 chop moves I might have declined the 9.35 one. How do you assess at 9.35 that you might be out of the chop and should trade?

I am a very good 'afterwards' trader I see the setups after the fact. But in a developing real chart I tend to take these chop trades and then chicken out of the following good ones.
Any advice?

One last question on the 13.10 entry. Would you wait for the 22EMA/22ZLEMAbars to turn red before taking that? The ECO cut the 0 line well before the EMA/ZLEMA bars turn red.
In my replay training I found a couple of times I got in too late on the move if I waited until EMA/ZLEMA conformation.
But when I set the 22/22it to 19/19 to try if that worked better for me, at times I got in too early as the ECO proved to be a fake-out.

fist peter the charts above are just examples for everyone to see the overall method, but you look at your 11 range and see what direction the market is moving then you look at your 11 range and see what color the jt stat is then you go back to your 4 range and look to see where the eco is and what the 7 zerolag color is and if there is any adx dots your only trying to get 3 or 4 ticks per move thats all, so if everything is saying go long you jump in and then back out then you wait for a new set up. every set up only try to grab 3 or 4 ticks, this in not a method of traqding to get alot of ticks this is only a quick scalping method that i made for me for scalping with many contracts, alot of it is taking educated guesses what the market is doing based on many hrs of watching the zn and knowing its behaviour...sharky

as far as changing your settings its your chart so you have to have a setting your comfortible with but ive tried every setting possible on every indicator on my charts and my settings are the most efficent for me,dont let just one indicator determin if you enter a trade look at the overall picture and dont overthink things just get into the flow of the market and relax and trade the more you do it and the more relaxed you are the better you will trade...sharky

Thanks,
I was already afraid you were going to say something like that. Taking the best educated guesses based on many hrs of watching the ZN. That is undoubtedly the screen time I have to build.

But in the next post you may have named the crux (is this English?)or the essential point of what is probably my biggest problem..... overthinking

I have foremost an analytical way of thinking (scientist background). In trading I really tend to over-analyze.... and miss opportunities.
At some point you have to take the risk, and take the plunge based on gut feeling. But that conflicts with the urge to comply to the rules of seeing all indicators flashing entry.
But I now get to issues that belong in another section of the forum.

Thanks for the answer ... indeed ... I should put a sign above my computer .. Don't overthink.

Peter, we are much alike in that regard.

I hope Sharky doesn't mind me following up your last post in his thread....

It is important to have your rules laid out in front of you ahead of time, so that you don't hesitate during the first few seconds of a trade and end up missing it because you were over analyzing it.

What you need to do is know exactly what action you are going to take IF the market does something specific. You don't want to predict, you want to anticipate...

Like you, I am scientific in my approach. I want something clearly defined, I am not good at "if the market is long, then only go long". I need something more specific (which is why I use EOT's Allas Avg). What you and I have to be careful of is that if you get too specific you wind up having far too many rules, too many "particulars", and that creates confusion which will lead to missing trades... or worse, entering a bad trade and then later justifying your rules to be valid (which you did not follow on that trade) because you have a rule for everything, so many rules in fact it is impossible to follow them.

I wonder, do you use a trading journal to log your trades? If so, have you noticed any patterns?

Mike

yes and if you trade like i do then you have to force yourself not to always pull the trigger because "YOU THINK " something is about to happen its hard i know trust me i know i had to fight with myself so many times to stop trying to perdict what was going to happen and just look at everything and understand what probally was going to happen and what was happining right now...sharky

Thanks Sharky for starting this thread and for sharing your method. I'm having a bit of trouble getting the charts set up. I first downloaded all the indicators from the download section. I'm not sure I have exactly the same ones as you because yours have slightly different names but I the parameters were the same so I think it's close.

Next I created all the indicators with the settings you have posted in your screenshots. What's odd is you have more indicators in your list than what you showed in each screen shot.

I then compared my charts with yours and of course they're different and I have no idea why. I see on your charts that your settings are not the same as the ones in your screen shots. You have 4 different DMA in your indicator list but it seems you only use two.

Finally, I can't get the white dots to show up which I believe is what shows congestion. I don't know which indicator does that.

If you could upload a chart template that would make it much easier. But even then I'm not sure it'd work if we have slightly different indicator names.

I don't know if it's possible for you but I think the best thing to do is to make a video and add the indicators one at a time and we can see the entire setup. This may be too much to ask as it's probably time consuming.

I'm not sure where to go next..

I thought I'd post an update. I found two other threads from Sharky, here is the second one:

in those threads he had a lot less indicators and it's easier to add them one at a time and play around with them. I finally got something close but not exact. In chatting with Sharky i'm not sure it's important to get the exact same chart, I think it's more important to learn how to trade it and adjust the indicators to your own style.

I'm going to monitor these charts & indicators this week and see how it goes. I'll be doing this in between my normal ES trading.

I have a problem with one of my indicators. On the last bar on the chart the DoubleMAPaint is 0. Any ideas? I tried with market replay and it's the same.

EDIT: It was the DoubleMAPaint. If I set Calc on bar close to true then it works properly. Any ideas why I can't put false like Sharky? Do I need it to be true?

Thanks sharky for all the great setup info.

Can I ask what times do you typically trade or avoid? Do you stick to 9:30am-4pm EST?

Also, do you scale back in the summer months Jul/Aug because of low volume, or is it business as usual?

Sharky

Many thanks for all your work here. Mike, you as well as the creator of the site

I have to say that I have learned more here in a few weeks than I've learned in months of study and review. The postings on the ZN are excellent as I find that I am spending more and more time on this contract.

I really find the videos useful. I hope in time that I can add back to the site.

I'm still learning and on sim but the ideas and suggestions here will help when I go "live"

Thanks again
Jim

I have a problem with one of my indicators. On the last bar on the chart the DoubleMAPaint is 0. Any ideas? I tried with market replay and it's the same.

EDIT: It was the DoubleMAPaint. If I set Calc on bar close to true then it works properly. Any ideas why I can't put false like Sharky? Do I need it to be true?

Is this a bad joke? lol? Like you didn't read the 100 posts about this already?

When I import the {indicator}.zip files, which {indicator}.cs files do I need to accept or not accept? I understand that those preceded by "@" are native NT indicators (or so one hopes) and thus do not need to be "accepted", but which of the remaining ones should or should not be?

The attached image shows what are included in each.

Follow up:
Because of my general resistance to "overwriting" already existing indicators (especially NT Native ones), I experimented with unzipping the indicator files, copying the .cs files only into my NT indicator folder, and then compiling them and setting up the chart... For the first time, my chart looks like sharky's! Then I exported these to a zip file and saw how NT works in the export function... it cleverly collects ALL the indicators, native or not, to ensure that everything required to use the indicators which are to be used in sharky's chart. So now I understand why they are included... intellectual curiosity is now satisfied and my learning curve on NT appropriately advanced.

Thank you so much systrader and sharky for all your hard work in making this as painless and "idiot-proof" (me being the idiot) as possible!

hi, I just started playing with the doubleMA, adxvma and the eco2 indicator and Iīm really impressed with the strategy. I just canīt find munch info on the ADXVMA and the ECO2 indicator.
I read on the forum that the adxvma is a moving average with a adx component but i cant find how its calculated. for example adxvma1 is this like a simplemovingaverage1 with the adx somehow incorporated?
And the eco2. I found some info that the eco indicators are trend strenght indicators similar to macd but i cant find info on just what it measures. is there a "place" where all this is explained? i searched the forum but couldnīt find a explanation...
thanx.

fiki, a lot of it was covered in previous blog posts and videos (prior to the forum creation).

ECO2 is Ergodic candlestick, you can google Ergodic and find a lot of info. It's a brilliant system.

I notice that some indicators are set to COBC "True" and some to "False"; in order to reduce CPU load, I'd like to set all to "False". Is there any reason why this shouldn't be done?

sharky and maxtd, I wonder if this isn't going to be confusing to folks who haven't been following the progress of the development of your chart/template. Might produce fewer questions if the older material were moved to a different thread...

This is the earlier thread I'm refering to:

If you set it to False it'll use more CPU.

The question is can we set them to true?

hey Sharky i could just press the thanks button, but i want to say it personally.

Thank you.

this topic and forum have been a huge help to my trading. I can honestly say that I have made 22Ticks this week I can directly attribute to your templates. Of course I've altered some things, but this thread and forum has given me a much better understanding of how these indicators work together and how to build a chart template that works for you.

I look forward to your next video, keep up the good work

Hey Sharky,

I've been using your "adxvma for sharky" from the download section. Do the indicators attached on page 3 of this thread supersede that one?

EDIT:
Check out the attached screenshot. It shows that the "ADXVMA for Sharky", shown as yellow dots, stops plotting before the "dma - 14zl/1adx" stops plotting white dots....
I just bring this up because if you were waiting for the neutral dots to stop plotting, then the adxvma for sharky may be better than the dma - 14zl/1adx.

Todd

Hey guys I'm hoping for some clarification on the setup criteria, here's what Sharky said in the first post:

sharky View Post
on my 11 range chart if my 14 zerolag 1 adx has plotted i look to see what color my candle is,what color the jt stat is,what color the macd is,and what color my 7 zero lag dma is.if everything tells me to go long then i only take longs on my 4 range and vise versa. i always try to trade with the jt stat on my 11 range for entries and i use the 4 range jt stat to help with exits look at my charts for more on that,if my jt stat on my 11 range is green then i look for a entrie on my 4 range, then when my jt stat turns even alittle red on my 4 range i start looking for a exit.

I have a few questions. Sorry if I seem slow but I'm a programmer and I break everything down into steps so that I don't mess things up.

- The wording above is a big ambiguous. What role do the consolidation dots on the 11 range chart have? Do we pay attention to them?

- The 22 EMA DoubleMA and Eco2 indicators are not mentioned. How do they fit into the criteria?

- The MACD colors are sometimes yellow. Does that mean we can go long or short? Or neither?

- My eco bars are sometimes yellow but in the video Sharky's are never yellow. Did I miss something?

- The stats is rarely all green or red. What is the criteria on the 11 range? I know on the 4 range if it gets a little red we exit.

Here is the way I understand it, which may change depending on the answers above:

11 Range chart:

Look at macd, bar color, the 7 zero lag DoubleMA, and stats and if all are the same color then we can go long or short. If one of them is a different color then we sit out.

4 Range:

Entry:
Once the consolidation dots are drawn we look at the color of the 7 zero lag DoubleMA, macd colors, stats, and bar color. If they're all the same color and we get a close above the consolidation dots then we enter a trade.

Exit:
It seems different people are experimenting with different exits. Sharky says he goes for 2-3 ticks and exits if stats starts turning the opposite color. Others play with it a little and use 2 targets with 2nd being the runner.

Thanks in advance for clarifying the above points. I was watching ZN & CL today. ZN was so slow, very little consolidation. CL was all over the place and it seemed that the method worked very well for CL today (from what I saw and from what the guys in the chatroom were saying). It's cool to watch both and take trades when you see them.

Sakis, good to know that you are using Sharky's setup for trading EUR/USD. I'm presently doing FX DEMO using NinjaTrader, and Sharky's setup looks very interesting; ofcourse, I have to tweak it to my taste and style; and it is working. Meanwhile, please could you post or let me know the indicator you use for the upper part of your chart showing the followings;

TICKET MARKET UNITS S/L T/P ....... etc

@ cunparis so what your looking for in a trade set up is where the long range chart direction is heading, the dots are not a must on the 11 range nor the macd they are just added things to look at,basically you want the 11 range to say the trend is this direction, then start looking at your 4 range for trades in the same direction...7 zero lag,bar colors,eco2 has to be away from the zero line...and look for some dots, then start watching your jt stat on the 11 r and the 4 r for both to be the same color after the dots already appear, the 22 ema 22 zero lag is not a must to have already changed because its slower than the 7 zerolag its just something to look at for a med range trend, just make short scalps in the direction of the long range trend, and say you in a long and the 4 range jt stats starts changing even alittle then start looking to exit fast, just my rules are a overall trading method but dont tie your hands with rules,my rules are just a overall bigger picture to look at it doesnt mean every indicator has to agree with each other. remember no such thing as a perfect entry, even a picture perfect entry can go bad on you.i hope this helps alittle...sharky

and also if you take the macd same settings and put them on a one min chart make them like size 600 or bigger and scrunch the window down they make for a nice 2nd oppinion along with the jt stat to look at for exits and entries as long as everthing else concers...sharky

just my rules are a overall trading method but dont tie your hands with rules,my rules are just a overall bigger picture to look at it doesnt mean every indicator has to agree with each other. remember no such thing as a perfect entry, even a picture perfect entry can go bad on you.i hope this helps alittle...sharky

Excellent Sharky, thank you very much for the clarifications. I think you've done a great job sharing your ideas and your tools, now it's up to us to practice practice practice! I saw in the chatroom that some other traders are having success so I must do what it takes to join them.

so what i want is to give my rules for entries and my charts and indicators for anyone who is interested in the sharky style of scalping. to start i use a 4 range chart to trade with and an 11 range chart to see the long trend and to help me with my entries. on my 11 range chart if my 14 zerolag 1 adx has plotted i look to see what color my candle is,what color the jt stat is,what color the macd is,and what color my 7 zero lag dma is.if everything tells me to go long then i only take longs on my 4 range and vise versa. i always try to trade with the jt stat on my 11 range for entries and i use the 4 range jt stat to help with exits look at my charts for more on that,if my jt stat on my 11 range is green then i look for a entrie on my 4 range, then when my jt stat turns even alittle red on my 4 range i start looking for a exit. my method of trading is looking for a break up or break down out of a consolidation period. some traders draw a support line in chop and trade when the price breaks above that or below that,it's what im doing also but im letting the adx automatically plot it for me so i dont have to draw it everytime myself.

Sharky in above quote you said your method is to look for consolidation period break up or break down. I like this type of simple method. Your more recent posts are confusing me though because you keep adding more and more stuff to them. I am new here But if it ain't broke why fix it. I mean what was wrong with the original method.

I would like to see you talk about trade management because I firmly believe money is made and lost in how you elect to manage the trade or if you elect to allow the market to control you. i think the indicator is less of a factor. You appear to be a good trader so I look forward to as many posts and conversations about management as what has already been shared here about indicators. People put too much weight on them.

Big thanks to Sharky for his generosity regarding his time and his knowledge that he willingly shares with us. Its amazing how you can look at different charts using what Sharky has shared and see where your entries should be. What I am curious about is...has anyone yet used the Market Analyzer with Sharky's trading system to alert of possible trades. See the attached charts......I am very interested if someone is already doing this...thanks in advance!!!!

Fesx, do you currently trade with your attached chart set-up, particularly the rules as they relate to the 36 EMA (this seems to be a new rule, sort of). If you do, has it been profitable; and would you recommend it ?

Lolu, I saw this setup of Sharky's on another post ....haven't had the time to play around with the settings....who knows if one can tweak it to get a few more trades out of the day..this setup makes money everyday..."if it ain't broke why try fixin it!!!!!!" I will say...this is a more conservative approach to his setups using a the moving average to decide the direction of your trades. This set up in my opinion will equate to a higher winning percentage of trades. There are definately other very profitable ways to trade this set up without the longer period moving average.

Sharky,
First and foremost, my sincere thanks for your hard work and dedication to helping fellow traders triumph against “the man”.
Being in the central time zone myself should your above post be taken as you “sitting out” the first 10 minutes of the session?

Do you take trades outside of sessions hours based on your setups?

no one said nothing was broken, there wasnt a step ma here and the one on ninja had settings that would flatline your chart, and i added a paint bar and a chop indicator to the econew if you dont like them you dont have to use them and if im going to get the 3rd degree everytime i post something new then i can quit posting...sharky
ps. use the old indicators and then use the new indicators before you just start asking questions i have enough to do without having to answer questions all the time

Sharky, you are DAMN RIGHT. But don't quit, just ignore/advise the 3rd DEGREES. I already have the setup (even before I realize that your new _ECO2New_PainBars_Sharkypkg indicator is in the "Downloads" link) according to post #80 and I've began testing it today, and it is interesting.

Even "if ain't broke", IMPROVE on it. That should be the spirit on this forum. Sharky, please don't quit !!!!!!!

Hi Sharky
Thanks for the idea.
The one problem I have is if I re-size the panel it changes the area that the Eco line emerges from the blue area. So I got a little confused.
Am I doing something wrong?

Sharky....just want you to know that all this work is greatly appreciated by us rank amatures......I've been playing AT trading on a part time basis and have never seen setups as clear as those with your indies and templates. I trade forex only and do find the range settings too tight so have gone to 8 and 15 (still working on this one) for now.
Will let you know how it goes.

a really BIGGG thanks.

Hey Sharky,.. Yesterday I added your RealStats_SharkyPkg indicator to my environment and I must say I love it. It incorporates right into my main view and I KNOW there are times when it gives me a headsup as to what the immediate next move is, especially when I see it flush quickly red or green after being neutral. Thanks again for all you do in this forum.
