Hey Sharky,
I've been reading through the ZN Classroom as well as the All You Need section. I have been trading the ES solely for the past 9 months.. I am breaking even or making some money now (only looking for $100 a day as my current goal). But, given the amount of focus you have on the ZN -- and in the thought that maybe I could make money more easily or just more consistently, I am looking at the 6E and ZN, per your suggestion to that effect.

Today, I traded the ES first. I noted what Jeff Castille and Cunparis said in All You Need about the 6E being correlated, and I noticed that, too. I made $75/1 contract in the ES (all of these trades are in SIM, as I'm trying to work with some of the info on futures.io (formerly BMT)).. then switched over to the 6E and gave back some and then moved it up to $125. Liked the feel of the 6E - maybe it was just today's action. Don't know.

Shut down those charts and opened the ZN and promptly lost the $125 and then some. LOL. I don't yet have any of your indicators, etc. but I am looking at that and downloaded some today. I came into the market (ZN) right around 10:30. Maybe I'll try the ZN first tomorrow to see the way it moves earlier (know the news starts at 8:30 EST tomorrow - unemployment claims).

Thanks for all the stuff you are sharing here. It helps a lot to have so many people sharing about similar markets. I am trying to decide if I should just switch from the ES or just stick with it now that I've stayed with it so long. And, just looking at trying out some of the indictators you're developing to see what to do with my trading next. Thanks!

Sharky, thanks for all your work on these indicators.... I loaded them last night, read all 21 pages of the thread.... Found all of the indicators and I ran it today and traded in sim. I only made two trades; (3 target, 6 stop). They were both successful but I was hesitant as I am a little unclear on the rules. I see your original rules in the beginning of the thread, but I know you have made changes to the indicators. I actually felt like I forced the trades. Today seemed to be just a flat day.
Can you send a picture of your 4 & 11 range chart and the trades you made today?

Greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Scott

@ goldilocks my advise is to pick one market to trade when you switch back and forth you never learn the behaviour of any markets, myself and some others now have all picked our favorite market and focused on just it for hrs and hrs and weeks and weeks to remember that particular behaviour, its ok to have opposing markets like the es/zn because they do the oppisite so its good to watch both but if you want to be a good scalper you have to understand what your scalping...sharky

I learned to trade Interest rates using: 30 yr Bonds, 10 & 5 yr notes. Also kept ym, es, & cash indexes, prem, etc. in view. As I was in a room the moderator knew interest rates much better than I, and it was at a time when Greenspan was the Cheese, so you would expect bonds to be running the show a lot of the time. Often the news would determine the move and sometimes it would mean more to one side or the other; e.g. an auction could keep Interest Rates in check for a good part of the day. Among the interest rates one might take the lead and you could follow with another, say 10's pull out and bonds follow. Likewise among the Indexes. The Yield curve would change gradually and there were was probably more arbing around that time, but any inequality between two like instruments would often tip traders off. The inverse correlation between Indexes and Bonds isn't always straight forward--that would be too easy. If you watch those markets you will begin to notice a leader and a follower. Bonds can move quickly but you need at least a 3-5 tick lean. 10's move more slowly and ticks are half the value again. If you get quotes from the pit (or perhaps a good squawk) that can be helpful. Other than levels, traders have trades in bonds working off the pit open which is usually a range of 2-3 ticks in Bonds, half-back trades (50%) retrace, etc. Those traders can read the tape and with just an order book.

I know the 6e was mentioned. I've found it to be pretty reliable and a quick mover, and it is correlated to the US market. I don't think that it is as skittish as the TF or YM. You can take your profit and get out. It may require a larger stop depending on how you trade it. As Sharky suggested you might want to get acquainted with it and see what it will do for you. The 10's require some patience. I'm not sure of the volume now compared to 3-4 years ago, but I recall some pretty big orders coming in on the bid or ask...and it would leave little doubt about who was in charge. You can add or delete markets on your screen or use a ticker for the ones you use as a reference, and you may only glance at them for assurance for holding, etc. I wouldn't suggest trading them all. There isn't any need to in the first place. I get manic trading more than one market at a time, a least on the same time frame.

Good luck.

Thanks! ok. I have spent that kind of screen time that you're talking about only with the ES. So, I guess I'll stick with that one primarily. Good advice. Thank you.

Oh. Alright.. NO. I would not say I've been making money every day. I'd say I've gotten spanked and whipped largely by the ES. lol BUT, I also thought, based on what I'd read on the process of learning trading, that part of that uh, experience, was learning curve...

Whew. I don't really want to start all over with a new market. But, I trust what you're saying, and I'm open to doing something new. I'd rather move forward than continue to spin my wheels instead of make money. Wish I knew that about the slower markets about 6 months ago. My fault, somehow, I'm sure... :-)

Thanks for clarifying.

True, it can bounce off or break thru. It's a 50/50 proposition unless you have backtesst data, right?

Tell us how we can determine which way it goes.

P.S. That's one very busy chart full of indicators. What happened to the concept of less is more?

you must be thinking of jeffs all you need thread, those are some new indicators im working on,you cant use less till you understand what your price is doing first so im working on new indicators to help people see where price is has been and probally is going,is this chart for everyone probally not are one or 2 of the indicators good for you or someone else maybe but different people can compute different things at different speeds according to their own ability and understanding of the market ,as far as what will price do when it hits a high or low, your guess is as good as any,you have to look at alot of different things is it the first bounce? if so maybe it will bounce 5-7 times maybe it has enough strength to just push thru on the first try,so put a buy above your high somewhere and a short below it somewhere and see what one gets triggered first, what is the zone you have been trading in all day is it at the top or bottem and starting to go sideways? where is your s/r levels? what is your volume zone indicator telling you"dont use unless you know how to read it" there are a million different things you have to look at to make your decision will it bounce or not, i hope that helps you alittle,if your uncertain just place your trade on top of it and below it and see which triggers first and please read as much sam sieden stuff as you can thanks for the question and have a nice week i will be gone till next weeks so i will try to catch up when i get back and answer your questions as quickly as possible...sharky

hey sharky ... just curious if you're still continuing this thread in the VIP section?

i've really enjoyed what you've posted here on the public side. the ZN is one of my favorite instruments and scalping is my preference, so i found this thread most intriguing.

if/when time permits, would you mind teasing us non-elite types with what you've got cooking over in VIP-land?

cheers,
-e

so what i want is to give my rules for entries and my charts and indicators for anyone who is interested in the sharky style of scalping. to start i use a 4 range chart to trade with and an 11 range chart to see the long trend and to help me with my entries. on my 11 range chart if my 14 zerolag 1 adx has plotted i look to see what color my candle is,what color the jt stat is,what color the macd is,and what color my 7 zero lag dma is.if everything tells me to go long then i only take longs on my 4 range and vise versa. i always try to trade with the jt stat on my 11 range for entries and i use the 4 range jt stat to help with exits look at my charts for more on that,if my jt stat on my 11 range is green then i look for a entrie on my 4 range, then when my jt stat turns even alittle red on my 4 range i start looking for a exit. my method of trading is looking for a break up or break down out of a consolidation period. some traders draw a support line in chop and trade when the price breaks above that or below that,it's what im doing also but im letting the adx automatically plot it for me so i dont have to draw it everytime myself.

HI SHARKY,

Thanks for sharing your trading method. Lately I am trading (FDAX and 6E) with your rules and indicators (so far the best (for my trading style) I found in futures.io (formerly BMT). I added the RSX which from my point of view offers a good exit point once the indicator has crossed the 50 lev line. Although it anticipates all the others I do not enter once the RSX is triggered, I just use it as an exit point. Since RSX is faster in price reaction I found it more profitable than your exit method (DC, JhlTD etc...). This is maybe not the best example since you would have exited on the Red JhlTD but I just wanted to show you the method. Your comments are highly appreciated.

Best regards,
RR

here are the new indicators...sharky

Just do not want to get confused here, if someone could help? There do not seem to be any indicators listed here, or attachments that I can see.

I am sure they may have been moved to a download location.....but I want to be sure exactly what they might be....the correct ones to use just to make sure I have the right ones.

Thank you,

HT

Do you mean this one?

EDIT: Oh I guess not. Hmm, well I just used advanced search to find all new threads started by sharky in Elite, couldn't find anything you would be talking about.

Mike I was only addressing the statement at the end of 22 or 23 pages of sharky's classroom...that anything on his classroom strategies would be continued in the Elite section......so I guess as of now there is no further posts....I also did a search as Cory suggested and did not find anything.

Hello Sharky,

Thank you for your insights on the Zn strategy, I have one simple yes/no question for you.

Lets say for example, you're about to open a long position in ZN assuming all your indicators/gut tells you it's good, however in the level II slots right above the current ask you see a lot of sell orders relative to the amount of buy orders just below(I.E. it looks like this)

#2294@ASKprice $104
#2268@ASkprice $103
#2182@ASKprice $102
#1984@ASKprice $101
last price $100
#1353@BIDprice $99
#1456@BIDprice $98
#1678@BIDprice $97
#1893@BIDprice $96

Would you still go long?

Thank You.

well thats not a yes no question lol so i cant answer only yes no,if your scalping just to scalp that could be a pullback or a change of direction,if your trend scalping that is probally a pullback buyers buy and sellers sell its a constant battle,it has to do with the orders that are availble and where we are in that order flow, once the sellers push it down to a certain point the buyers step in and stop it or push it back thats also called s/r from one view or a market pause, consolidation or chop, thats the best way i know to put it in laymans terms...sharky

Ok, just to clarify, you're saying that if you were scalping long for 3 ticks and you saw all those orders sitting right above your entry (even if all other indicators said buy) you would consider that a no go because of it being right below strong resistance?

As for order flow, do you know if it is possible to see genuine order flow? like for example: to see just what point in line your order is currently sitting at? Say the level II said:

ASK PRICE $101 #of bids 63
LAST PRICE $100
BID PRICE $99 #of bids 57

Say I put my buy order in for $99, I am now the 58th bidder, so that means I am 58th in line to get filled at $99? Is there a way to see this order flow live?

Thank You.

no in the old days if you where in the pit you could look over at the order desk and see a stack or orders and watch them so when they got down to a certain level you knew it was your time to get in,but as for now i think you would have to ask gomie or timmyb im not interested in that as it takes to much of my time to study.some people trade like that and some dont...sharky

You can see the number of contracts that are waiting to get filled ahead of you on a CQG DOM. Is that what you mean M M.

Scalping is not the same as it was even 5-10 years ago. The last time I was on the floor I saw no more than a dozen traders in the Bond pit (10-yrs were slow, 5-yr options I think was busy). Your example doesn't provide enough context. You need a strong level. Once you could place a 1 tick SL (in bonds), it became 3-5. Traders had assistants with headsets arbing, trading pairs, and finally executing orders in the electronic market upstairs. Everybody watched the big locals and the institutions. Notes were deep--that is bids and offers would suddenly appear for 6-8k, then more would hit--so if you were with them fine otherwise you're dead. Electronic interest rate traders start to place orders an hour before the pit opens. You would also either be a member or a lessee so your commissions would be 10 cents up to a certain point then free.

Cisco is about $600/mo. for charts. TT is free if you want to pay retail commissions, otherwise about $500 one exchange.

The 10-year options pit was still pretty active. Some traders went to grains (scalping is scalping). If I want a price I just make sure that a level is going to hold then place a limit order and let the market trade into it. If you are patient you can place orders beforehand or alerts. There are occasions where you can save yourself a few ticks over a market order. Practice with Ym perhaps. Follow the auctions and learn about interest rates. Good luck. BTW, One of the best ways to lose money is by opening your trade in the wrong location, and then placing your stops too close.

I'm not yet familiar with Sharky's trading techniques, but I'd like to make a general comment about level 2 market depth in the Treasury complex. A great deal of the trade in Treasuries is yield curve spreading (pairs trading or butterfly trading) or basis trading (cash/futures spreading). Autospreaders generate orders at price levels where traders would like to execute a spread, but often these orders are not at the best bid or offer. When you see big orders above the market they may very well be contingent on some offer in another instrument that is at the best offer, but they will cancel when that offer cancels. Also, a lot of bluffing is going on.

jstnbrg,

Do you even think it is worth it for me to be looking at those "perceived " S&R numbers in level II then?

I draw little trend lines on my charts (just ahead of the current price) wherever I see larger size sitting above/below current price... and generally, it appears to be fairly accurate... however, sometimes I see large orders (outside the current price) just come and go.... they are placed then they just disappear.... like you said, bluffers or some other kind of trick.

Thank you

The search functions are fantastic in futures.io (formerly BMT).
Here you go

Also double click in the search button and it will give you options.First is attachments and that should give you a lot of options in your search in this FANTASTIC forum.

Hello every one,

I am new to this forum. I have been trading futures for a while.

I came across this thread and found it very interesting. I have downloaded pretty much all components of the "Sharky's package". I have set up following the directions from Sharky's video. i have problem with 1 indicator. That is JT Real Stats. I have downloaded the file named "JTRealStats_3.zip" from greattradingsystems.com. When I try to import it intop NT7 I get a message: Import failed: Ninjascript archieve file may contain duplicate method names that already exist on your PC or there is a required file missing on either your PC or in the import archive.

So, I am thinking that this is either the wrong file or corrupted.

Can some one please give me the correct "RealStats_SahrkyPkg" file.

Thank you.

Big thanks to Sharky for his generosity regarding his time and his knowledge that he willingly shares with us. Its amazing how you can look at different charts using what Sharky has shared and see where your entries should be. What I am curious about is...has anyone yet used the Market Analyzer with Sharky's trading system to alert of possible trades. See the attached charts......I am very interested if someone is already doing this...thanks in advance!!!!

fesx do you scalp zn?

thanks
