I recently got into this for a customer. Yahoo only streams out equities data, not indices data.

Supposedly, NT7 is going to include Google data, and Google offers more options. They don't offer everything though. And NT7.. well...

LOL yup. I left that on my blog on purpose.

And it's my bet it will be at least another 89 days before a final release is publicly available to the masses. And even then, will you want to switch to it until all the bugs have been worked out?

I'm not sure...

Yahoo only streams out equities data, not indices data.

Hi Fiki/Mike

Fortunately Yahoo DOES stream indices, only the process is a bit more complicated.
All indices from Yahoo start with ^ symbol.
Once you know what is a ticker symbol for the index on the Yahoo website - in your case it is: ^OMX you need to add this symbol to instruments list.
But the only way you can enter symbol starting with "^" to NT instrument manager is by using "on-the-fly" method. Here is how:

1. Open new Dynamic SuperDOM (or static if you have one)
2. Type the symbol of the instrument (^OMX) into the instrument field
3. Press Enter on your keyboard. This adds the instrument to your master list in the Instrument Manager, it is call on-the-fly.
4. Now you can get a data by typing ^OMX in your chart instrument field or you can add it to any of the instruments lists just like with every other instrument.

Attached is screenshot of ^OMX data from Yahoo website and my NT6.5 (Yahoo feed)

Hope this helps

One more tip:

The "on-the-fly" method is very helpful not only with instruments with "^" in name but also with other non-standard characters (e.g. "'-") not accepted by NinjaTrader in the instrument name field otherwise.

Hi Fiki/Mike

Fortunately Yahoo DOES stream indices, only the process is a bit more complicated.
All indices from Yahoo start with ^ symbol.

I was confused, my customer wanted VIX which Yahoo has data for, but does not stream.

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=^vix

My research for the customer also led me to this:

VIX ticker from Yahoo Finance data - [AUTOLINK]NinjaTrader[/AUTOLINK] Support Forum

And I guess it was NT's own response (which you are saying is wrong, no shocker there) that lead me to believe it was equities only.

NinjaTrader_Michael
Unfortunately this is not available via Yahoo's data feed as they support equities only. Provided is a link that will show you which of our supported data feed providers offer indices.

Hi Mike

Luckily for me I never asked this question on the NinjaTrader-"this-is-not-supported"-Forum , as I would probably get the same answer
