I want to bring to the attention of all this thread, which left me perplexed, Tick Data Loading Performance Problem - Sierra Chart

I am very surprised (or maybe not), to the reaction that the support team has had. First of all does not seem they have understood the topic of discussion, replicating with inappropriate post, then they closed the discussion by saying that they can not and will not do anything about it, because for them it is not something to be taken into account, leaving no chance for discussion to customers, which have not said anything wrong, indeed it seems that they wanted to discuss to help you find a possible solution, if possible. This seems not really fair.
What I am really surprised of, is the conduct, and the feeling that they might have felt discredited or something.
What do you think guys?

Take your Pips, go out and Live.
Luke.

Luke,

I've been a Sierra customer for almost 2 years and I follow the support board pretty closely. This kind of thing happens every once in a while and I wouldn't take it personally. That is part of the Sierra experience. They are a little prickly about some subjects. Actually, though, if you went back with a lot of data and a good reason why it is important they might end up changing it in a day (or they might yell at you again).

Frankly, I kind of like the fact that they are engineers who sometimes get defensive like all engineers and not marketing types. That is a big part of the reason why Sierra is such a hidden gem. It isn't for everyone, but if you don't mind the rough edges, it is a pretty great platform and support group.

John

have been monitoring the forum for some time now.

The reaction of Sierra support indeed surprises me sometimes.
I do agree it's a nice program but i don't like the tone of voice everytime.
What amazed me the most was also how the customers react on the board,
demanding not always friendly.

It's not a break for me but i did started to look better at Multicharts.

It isn't always like this. There are a couple people on the support board right now that are very confrontational. I hope they will go away soon, but it does provide some amusement.

I posted that post. I fully expected them to not get it or not want to fix it, as there are other older threads alluding to the issue as well.

I have to say I was a little surprised that my thread was closed before I even had a chance to reply to it.

I will be showing them that they clearly have a problem, even if they clearly want to ignore it. I may try again in the forum, or perhaps point out that people can get the real deal over here.

BTW, even with the BS response, I would never even consider going back to Ninja support.

Aslan,

I ran a few tests on this as well. It is strange because there is a huge difference for me between a 1 tick chart and a 2 tick chart (around 10 minutes vs 1 minutes).

Just curious why the need for so much 1 tick data?

John

Yes, wouldn't you expect closer to linear performance for 1 vs 2 tick chart?

THe reason for 1-tick data is two fold. First, in order to generate custom bar types (called custom charts in sc), you need tick data in order to generate accurate bars. Second, in order to generate accurate longer term cumulative delta you also need tick data.

Just FYI, here is a quick video loading 1-tick data on my machine.

This is using TT feed, 30 days of 1 tick on CLH11. It took 1m 50s. I use this for cumulative delta on my trading chart.

If you look at the history of the CPU graph right when the video starts, you'll see what SC averages on my machine when Camtasia isn't recording (which is about 5-6% CPU with all the other background apps running like normal on my machine). Once the video recording starts, Camtasia consumes resources naturally so it jumps a small bit to 8-9%.

Then if you watch the CPU graph you'll see a noticeable jump in resources during the 1-tick chart loading, up to about 23% load. You can also see the 1-tick chart loads very quick in the beginning, then becomes exponentially slower as more historical data is loaded.

I have a i7 920 overclocked to 4ghz w/12GB and (4) 750GB in a RAID 10 w/Hardware RAID 3Ware 9690SA for comparison.
