Hey guys, I always forget the news so I wrote a little indicator to remind me of the news updates. You just type in the times for the news (103000 = 10:30:00 local time) and it will draw a line on the chart and play a wav file. It handles up to 10 times (leave at 0 if you don't want them all). I couldn't test the wav file cause it doesn't work on historical data and the markets are closed, so let me know what you think.

I'm attaching the wav file in the zip, I couldn't figure out how to add it to the download page. The indicator is on the download page..

I just installed it and figured out after looking at your screen shot that you need to put 2 trailing "00" on the end of your time for it to show. So if you wanted to see an alert at 10:00 you would need to enter in 100000. After doing that it worked like a charm. Thanks for sharing!!!!

Update: Doh!, had I only read your instructions in the first place..

Thanks Cunparis

cunparis,

I've tried to find an RSS or XML of a good calendar that has good enough data to parse. If you found a good data source we can try to work on the project of automatic integration/downloads.

On forexfactory there is a calendar indicator that does this, it's mq4 and like 2000 lines of code. I am thinking that is ridiculous surely it is not that complex if we can get a good data source.

Mike

Did you check this post ?
Downloading and parsing the .csv from DailyFX looks an easy way to do this kind of stuff.

Try this.

Open up Excel, Click on Data, select Import External Data, select New Web Query. Enter in the webpage 2009 Economic Calendar. It dumps the webpage contents into a spreadsheet. Create VBA code to strip down the cells/rows that are not needed.

I found this code to be able to read the spreadsheet/text file into the indicator and plot the values on the chart. Get Indicator Input from Excel - [AUTOLINK]NinjaTrader[/AUTOLINK] Support Forum

This utility would run seperately at the beginning of each week and before opening up of NT. This way the values would be set for the week.

The data could be incorporated into cunparis's indicator. What do you think?

fyi - I started messing with inserting NEWS data onto the charts and I found that if you have your Formated Data Series(Days Back) set to more than 1 day that the news get repeated on those other days at the time(s) set in the indicator.

It's probably alright because you are only going to be looking at the current day for trading. Just to keep in mind when looking back.

Forex Factory has a XML page that can be accessed: Retail Sales m/m

Data Structure is stored:
<event>
<title>IBD/TIPP Economic Optimism</title>
<country>USD</country>
<date>09-15-2009</date>
<time>14:00</time>
<impact>Low</impact>
<forecast>52.1</forecast>
<previous>50.3</previous>
</event>

Drawback is that the actual release number can not be retrieved and times are set in GMT (I think). It is on my "to do" list but never have gotten around to working with it. I am still searching for a source that the actual release number can be accesses.
