Someone recently told me that it's a waste of time to trade during the last two weeks of December because most traders go on vacation and there's not enough price movement. What do you think? Is this true?

Hi

Yes that is true, however it is a good time to get to educate yourself with your strategies and i have found my success rate was higher last year during this period.

The first week of december is usually difficult when futures rollover . The end of the year does see lower volume so short timeframes and scalping is going to be more difficult .

I trade a little, and i dont trade as many positions as i am typically trade. I just lighten up, and dont trade as long. I need a break also!

It depends also about instrument tarded, but generally there's lower volume, so you can incur in almost flat moviment days. So be carefull to look at the volume and range. Anyway I think the lastest years this behaviuor is changing, cos the 'big guys', who make the volume, don't stop totally trading, maybe last week of december and the first of genuary will have less movement.

Take your Pips, go out and Live.
Luke.

I think you absolutely have to be aware of it. But I don't rule it out entirely, just like I don't rule out lunch entirely, or rule out overnight entirely. Look at your chart, study the price action. If it is moving and moving well, then you can trade it. But you should be very cautious since the likelihood is increased that it will NOT be moving well as the end of month draws near and fewer traders are trading.

Mike

I tend to mello out at the end of the year, I still watch, but I don't make as many trades. I will stop trading this year the week of Christmas and then resume after the first week of January.

I don't trade in August and I don't trade in December.

OH! One exception where I tried to trade the turn but it ruined my hols so I ditched it.
