Day Trading (Scalping) with Starlink satellite internet?
Hello, as the title says, I am an interday scalper trading the ES on a fast timeframe. I am looking to buy a recreational property in a rural area, hunting/fishing/ATV's etc. Obviously properties im looking at dont have wired internet connection and zero cellular signal for anything other than a phone call.
Dont know if it matters but It would be rural north florida area.
Starlink, if it actually works well enough, would change my whole life LOL
Does anyone have any first hand experience with this? I dont care how much it costs, if it provides a stable connection that I can use and not worry about being stuck in a position going against me while out in the woods, I would gladly pay for it.
THANKS!
EDIT: Im not an internet wizard, but I trade from south east asia in Thailand for about half the year and use ninjatrader with a 5g phone connection tethered and have absolutely zero problems. I would assume if latency would be an issue, I would have a problem with it being so far from the exchange in the USA. Again, I am not a wizard with this stuff, but thats a data point I thought might be pertinent.
I have not traded with Starlink but I have a friend with the service he gets 200 mb down consistently.
He said a few times a day the connection may drop/slow but is mostly consistent.
I recently activated T-Mobile Home internet at my home in Louisiana.
I was amazed the speed in a rural area where services are slow.
I am getting 100 mb down normally. (fast enough to trade quickly)
I was surprised I could get that service here since the previous provider could only provide DSL at 6 mb down
You can put your address in Florida into T-Mobile or Verizon and see if the service is available in that area. https://www.t-mobile.com/home-internet/eligibility
If 5G is available in your area it is a better/economical option.

Compared to a fiber link Starlink has a much higher network latency, which can be a problem in sclaping. Still, if there's no automation involved it should be fine, your eyes and fingers will still be slower .
The network latency is worst with 4G cell networks, but (in theory) much better with 5G networks.
Whatever the case try to avoid WiFi and use Ethernet instead, this will reduce the latency, and the latency is the enemy in sclaping (market data received with delay, orders sent with delay: slippage and bad fills).

Echoing and expanding upon what @sam028 said, what you care about is latency and not bandwidth/capacity.
Using the analogy of water in a pipe, bandwidth/capacity is how much water is moving through the pipe while latency is how fast that water is moving. For trading having a small very fast pipe (ie low latency connection) is more important than having a massive but slower pipe. If your downloading a 4K movie though you probably want the high capacity connection.
Most providers boast about their bandwidth/capacity but don't mention their latency. I have both a Xfinity cable connection and an AT&T fiber connection. The cable connection has a lot higher capacity but the fiber connection has about half the latency.
