This is the introduction of "Backtesting Edition (BTE)" from Multicharts' official website, and the web page also compares the differences between "BTE license" & "Standard full-featured license" & "Full-featured license with ASP"
And this is a screenshot from "MultiCharts User Manual". What confuses me is the differences between offline mode of Full-featured license with ASP and Backtesting Edition.
Both offline mode and Backtesting Edition can write strategies and backtest using locally stored data on another computer while the main computer is trading in online mode, and both have no access to real-time data.
It seems to me the only difference between them is that offline mode need to be restarted every 30 days. So what's the point of buying additional Backtesting Edition? Am i missing anything here?
By the way, I missed the independance day sale. The next sale should be black friday sale around Thanksgiving and Christmas, right?

I never heard about a "backtesting edition". There two main modes to use MC, online and offline.
Online is useful for live sistematic trading.
Offline is used for backtesting and debugging.
There is the classic edition, I use it, and the .NET edition.
The classic uses Power Language, a not object oriented programming language.
It is enough for most users.
The .NET edition works with more complex programming languages:
"MultiCharts .NET is engineered specifically for programmers who use VB.NET and C#.
The .NET Framework is much more flexible than PowerLanguage allowing you to implement
complex trading and analysis ideas without the need to use external functions."

I would suggest that you ask the Multicharts support directly, if it is still possible to work with the same license on two machines (with only one being online). According to my understanding they removed this option/possibility with MC 14 and introduced the BTE instead.
It seems like the offline mode is supported until MC12, and BTE license is required for backtesting on another computer in MC 14. But their user manual and wiki pages haven't updated this information yet.
