First entry using Chart Trader, how to recognize entry in strategy?
Hello, I have a strategy to scale in with 2 additional entries after I make the first entry manually using chart trader. However, I cannot find a way for the strategy to recognize the first entry made with chart trader. When the strategy is enabled, and I have entered a position using chart trader, "Position.MarketPosition" reads flat. I have it print on screen to confirm using the fixed text function and it reads flat, while in chart trader it shows the open position. How can I read the current market position within the strategy?
The strategy will only recognize the positions it has opened itself. It will not take into account positions that have been created manually or by other strategies.
You may want to
- let the (master) strategy start an ATM strategy inside the (master) strategy to open the fist position,
- then let the strategy add two more positions according to your rules
When the strategy creates the ATM strategy, it may call any preset ATM template as specified. Once the ATM strategy has been started, the (master) strategy can no longer control it.
However, you will be able to move the target and stop manually or close the first position manually. This will not affect the second and third position.
To simplify entering the first position, you could let the strategy have one or two buttons sitting in the chart task bar, such that it will enter a position (long or short) when you press the button.
My experience has been that strategies and manual entries have no awarness of each other. The work around to achieve what your are wanting to achieve to to create an order entry button that is refrenece in your strategy. This way the strategy is involved right from the beginning.
To Fat Tails Market Wizard, checking the link that you gave, I found something that referred to the Long Short Toolbar Buttons strategy in the ninjatrader ecosystem user app share. I was able to incorporate that strategy into mine and it works, thanks very much.
