It would be helpful if you posted a chart that illustrates what you consider to be lack of volatility and increased volatility. Not sure what an 8 point workspace is... range bars ? Knowing this would make it easier to help you.
That your trades last from a few seconds ( increased volatility?) to 30 Min. ( lack of volatility ?) suggests you are trading in both situations if this is true. Are you doing so profitably with the same methods or do you adjust?
I associate increased volatility with attempts to change a trend as the "other side" makes a stand and pushes back against those in temporary control of price movement. If you analyze what happens after an increase in volatility you may better understand its significance as a comment on the underlying dynamics. Usually a test of important support or resistance that results in a reversal of trend.
