Seeking to save on data fees on CQG with two platforms
I had to take a break from trading game a few years ago due to health and personal reasons. I have followed along but not the way I used to and know that the exchanges have changed the data fee game and it's no longer the "good ole days" where one data feed could connect to whatever you want.
So i am trying to look at best possible options to save on data fees. and hoping someone here will have some suggestion/guidance/tips.
Previously, i was running Jigsaw, sierra on one feed. however, that will incur separate data and connection fee now. I have enquired at a couple of places and no one has given me a proper answer even when asking a simple yes or no question.
Two questions for the community here:
1. Any suggestions on keeping these two platforms but pay only once? wishful thinking probably, still asking.
2. Is it possible to switch between platforms easily? ex: hypothetically, if i want to use jigsaw today and sierra chart tomorrow, how difficult would it be to switch between the two with a brokerage like say AMP or optimus or whatever. is it as simple as disconnecting one and connecting the other to keep the 1 connection limit? any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I just started to use both Bookmap and Ninjatrader together.
My broker informed me that they cannot 'split up' two CQG connections from one data feed. That's why, I had to get another, seperate CQG connection just for Bookmap.
I now run both platforms simultaneously with each having it's own data feed.
Afaik, I don't think you can get away with just one connection, but check what your broker can offer you.
Call your broker and ask, to be sure. But you can definitely get two logins with CQG, and the additional one is $20 per month I think. This allows you to login from two clients. Whether you can trade from both at the same time, say, SC on one and Jigsaw on the other, I can't confirm. But, I don't see why you couldn't. It's the CQG WebAPI, which is just an interface, and I think they should be relatively agnostic about what client you use to actually connect with.
Hi. I'm using Interactive Brokers, as my data source and broker, with Ninjatrader 8. I notice that IBKR doesn't send Historical TICK data, only Minute data. I am going to be backtesting with indicators that require tick data (Volume based: VWAP,etc.) I've checked the list of data providers for NT8, on their website. Do you know of a data provider that meets this criteria? And economical? I only need Indexes at present.
If you are using Ninjatrader as a platform, sign up with Ninjatrader brokerage either to trade with or open an account with the minimum and just pay for data.
Or sign up with Kinetick data feed, a version of DTN IQFeed data but with a cheaper basic cost as it only works with the Ninjatrader platform.
You do not win as a trader, you just get to play again the next day. If that game doesn’t appeal to you then you should not trade. Gary Norden
