The post count limitations are in for a reason, which is to limit what new members can do until they have made a few posts to show they are serious. The posts don't have to be anything that elaborate -- any trading question will do, or anything you would like to say or on which you would like to have a conversation or express a viewpoint.

We do limit things like participating in vendor reviews, basically to filter out vendor-related spam, pro- or anti-, in connection with vendors and reviews of their services or products. And there are a few others restrictions that have been found to be necessary over a long period of time. But there will still be much that you can do.

Just find topics you want to discuss or take part in. There will be a great many, and soon the post count issue will be in the past.

There are non-serious section and general non-trading discussion sections here as well. I can suggest having a look there to fill the count, it works as long as its not something that is downright spam or bot behavior.

I just want to clarify for any new user reading this:

Do not post meaningless, one-liner junk content such as "Thanks!", especially in rapid succession, as that will still be considered junk posting.

If you have something to contribute please do so, but if not, wait until you do.

This is another thing to understand. The forum is moderated, and your post may be read for content by a moderator. We also do watch for repeated quick posting, and if someone just wants to boost their post count so they can go on to do something else, that's not the best way to go. Any real post that has a reason behind it will be fine. But junk posts to boost post count will not, and if that's their purpose, they won't succeed.

A word to the wise.

Reading this, I must apologize if my intention came out as promoting junk posting. It wasn't meant to be.

No, it wasnt, no worries. But sometimes words can be misunderstood and I wanted to ensure there is no misunderstanding, that's all.

They are, and I'm sure they contribute to this place being so much cordial than most.

But just FYI I know of a couple of people who were recently introduced to futures.io who ended up not becoming members of the community because of the same reasons raised by OP. They couldn't participate in any of the threads they were interested in because they didn't have the 10 posts.

There are different levels for different things. FYI, the most important restriction is on the ability to post in a vendor review thread. Why? Well, seriously, have you seen some of what gets into vendor threads even with the filter? And do you realize how many out and out vendor shills and spammers we end up banning? Probably you don't, but it's a lot.

Mike built these rules up over time for a reason, and protracted and painful experience with people, usually vendors and their representatives, trying to slide around the rules and either get in a plug for their side, or to trash another vendor. We spend a lot of time dealing with both. Then there's the guy with an ax to grind, who may have a true and legitimate grievance, but who only wants to come in here to knock the vendor who did him wrong. This is of course more legitimate than the others, and ideally we want any and all true reports of actual traders' experiences. But to get them, we have found we want some evidence of seriousness and good intentions. That really means, we have to see some output from them first. If you put up a number of substantive posts that have something to say, or even some questions that address something of real trading interest, or even sound like you're a real trader and not a shill, it's more likely that you are not here just to hawk your own stuff, or trash a competitor, or swing that ax you've been grinding. Requiring members to show they are for real is a blunt tool, and it can be gotten around often by someone who is at least half-smart, but it's a good tool for what we need it for.

It is not really very hard to meet the bar. Write ten things that are not obviously trivial and just for the post count. Don't writes them once every five minutes until they add up to enough. Put at least a little thought into them. At least make some effort to show you care about trading and have something to share. (An amazing number do not do well with these tests.)

It's way better to have something to weed out the insincerely non-serious ahead of time than to start deleting and banning them when they get to the vendor thread they are aiming for and start doing their thing there. And sure, sometimes we will miss out on something that a real, sincere person could have to contribute. But believe me, you have no idea of the size of the problem (I never did) until you're a mod and you see it, basically everyday sometimes, and almost always every week.
