For the non-US based, how are you withdrawing money from US brokers?

Most brokers seem to have wire fees ranging from $25-70. Once you start withdrawing regularly these fees add up.

Many don't seem to accept Transferwise or the like.

Update:
For anyone else looking, HSBC Premier seem to fit the bill. You'll need to be willing to have a lot of money sitting in one of HSBC's accounts.

I'll open an account here in Australia and be automatically eligible for HSBC Premier in the US. That'll give me the routing number to get money out of AMP into a bank account, then fee free transfer to my HSBC Australian account.

Thank you for the update. Why does it need to be Premier? Won’t the HSBC global account work also?

I don't know 100% if this would work, but something to look into would be to open a Limited Liability Company in the US, can be done easily online and for relatively cheap (few hundred). Then open a Business banking account with your bank of choice, BOA, Wells Fargo, Citibank, etc. Then, withdraw to that account from your brokerage, then move onto Transferwise and do as you will. Again I'm not 100% sure this will all work, it's been several years since I opened a business account online in the US, rules might have changed since but back 5+ years ago I was able to do this. But, might defeat the purpose of saving fees since you'll have to pay to set it all up, and business accounts usually have monthly fees also of $15/month plus.

From what I gather, the HSBC global account is purely an account that can hold multiple currencies. It's not a US domestic account and doesn't come with a US routing number.

Couple of things that it may pay to check with AMP & HSBC first as I have thought about this as well, but not actually done anything about it:

1/ I am HSBC Premier in NZ and was able to open HSBC accounts in the UK. BUT I still had to be in the UK to do it. Sure I got it done without needing a permanent address in the UK, but I did have to be physically in the UK to open the account. Can HSBZ OZ open an HSBC USA account for you with out you being in the USA?

2/ You will have signed some USA IRS form when you opened your account with AMP basically to say you confirm you are a tax resident of OZ and therefore under the double tax agreement you do not need to pay USA tax. Will this be placed in jeopardy if your profits are transferred by AMP to a USA domicilled bank account?

3/ Under KYC and anti money laundering rules, will AMP transfer your profits to a different bank account to the one you used to fund the account - especially a bank account in a different country to the address/country you have registered with AMP?

I would be interested in the responses you get from AMP & HSBC.

All good questions to ask. Some questions I'll need to check with an accountant on too.

With regards to the HSBC NZ/UK account, it seems UK has very different rules.

Opening an account in UK remotely is currently only possible if you live in Hong Kong. Opening a US account remotely isn't possible from NZ, but is possible from AU and a bunch of other countries.

I'll update when I hear back from AMP.

IB allow one free wire out + one free SEPA transfer out per month. The charges after that are nominal.
