Hello everyone,
IB is a great broker because it offers many products and markets. As many other traders comment TWS it is not the best for trading futures.
Well. after many reading and experiencing I will shoot a question to the community:
Based on your experience what was the platform that works best with TWS while trading stocks and futures?
PS: I have tried MultiChart with AMP,(not IB TWS API). It seemed to me to have lags of data feed as well as order executions.
I installed Das Trader Pro, recommended by IB too, they aren't specialized in future trading although they seem to offer CME connectivity and trading. Haven't tried it, the platform itself, looks so 90's, overly complicated to start-up. Anybody tried it and worked effectively with futures trading? Sierra Chart ... the introduction that they make to Interactive Brokers users scares you away from the 1st few lines...and there is a lot of reading to do there. NinjaTrader is specialized on futures trading, I wonder how it works with stocks? to me, doesn't seem to practical for stocks trading!
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
So you are basically looking for 1 platform to trade everything IB offers? Seirra is not shy on its opinion of IB data. I have pulled up stock charts on ninja but never traded stocks, not sure why it wouldn't work though.
Doesn't hurt to demo a few and see what works best for your trading style.
I tried IB + Multicharts in the past.
You can trade futures and stocks but not options. The Multicharts version that I still have is the easylanguage and not the ".Net". So, you can have a portfolio + strategies on it. I think if you want to use automated strategies, Multicharts is probably a good option.
If it is for investment purpose and long term positions, I don't think this would be the best solution. If it is for intraday trading, it is OK, even if you can find much better solutions like Jigsaw.
Basically, at the time I wanted a serious and stable frontend with order management for Interactive Brokers, to swing trade Stocks and Futures. It did the job, even if I always kept TWS on, for a recap of my positions.
At the time, this was 99% compatible with Tradestation easylanguage indicators and strategies. As both platform evolved differently, this is less and less the case now. The ".Net" version is probably better equipped now for new technologies.
