Might get shit on for this one, but who has used motley fool? A family member of mine has been gloating all day about a 20k day all because he has subscribed to there services. This can't be real? I mean a blind squirrel finds a nut evey now and then, who has use/used there stuff? Whats your opinions. ( I know this isn't futures related but I trust this forum over others for honest reviews)
Thanks

I use a Motley Fool service, but it's an investment idea service, not a trading service. No entries, no exits, so stops, etc. They have many different services at a range of prices. If you use one of the lower (reasonable) priced services, you will receive email solicitations for their higher (over) priced services which are more specialized. Flagship product is Stock Advisor. I currently use the Rulebreaker portfolio service.
Don't see how any of their services could provide for one 20K day of performance, unless you're already long one of their pick announcements, because when they send out a buy rec, the name usually moves a few percent just from their subscriber's orders. (I would not be included in this action) Maybe his portfolio moved up that amount in a day? If so, it could go right back down.......
You can usually find a deal on Stock Advisor or Rulebreakers by searching for promo or coupon codes.
These services are good for keeping a watchlist for short to intermediate term opportunities. Longer term they are pretty good for college savings, retirement for younger folks, etc. Their MO is to look to hold picks for 5+ years, and accumulate over time.
They first recommended Amazon at something like $2 a share, and have never put out a sell. Similar for Netflix, Apple, etc.
Of course you can also just watchlist the IBD stock lists for setups.
Bottom line not a game changer for a short term trader, but a pretty good investment idea generator.
Yeah it was a trade/investment he took about 6 months and just started moving the other day. He pays for all the expensive packages he wouldn't give me a exact number but said he pays north of 5k a year.
Looking to start more of a long term approach thats not a 401k and thought for $50 a year it might be worth it.
How do you like the rule breaker? How long do you normally hold? What are the IBD, haven't dont a ton of research on Motley due to the holidays.
Thanks

I will swing a lot of their picks if they are at support, and use a stop, so that could be a few days to a few months. Trader mentality takes over, so I take partials and trail.
Longer term, I will buy starter positions in their picks, literally like $1k position size, add some on weakness, add more on breakouts. I use weekly Ichimoku Cloud as my go to trend filter. Don't like to own anything below the weekly cloud.
I write puts all the time - those are short term by nature, often a week or less. I will get assigned on occasion if I like the stock enough, and usually write calls against. Other times I'll avoid assignment by covering at a loss.
Higher priced stocks I'm more likely to write a put credit spread, and possibly add a bull call spread.

One thing I really liked about Fool, which they eliminated - you could look up a ticker, and it would tell you how many fool services recommend a stock - so if it was 5 or 6 you knew there was major conviction. That's gone, and I'm kind of bummed about it.
You could just pump your family member for names...... and post them here.....
Thanks for the info, looking to setup a long term portfolio after the new year. I'm sure my day trading mentality will have a hard time with this at first since I trade off a tick chart but I feel like I'm missing out on lots of moves by not having anything long term.
The ability to be short and long term is the goal. Do you tradr/hold there etf?
I would ask him for the picks but he is one of those guys that hates to see other do well. For example I for one don't like to talk about how much I make, I think its extremely tacky(just the way I was raised) but when ever he does get a daily $$ amount out of me it's always turns into a competition... he won't even share the picks with his own son lol. For 100 bucks or 2 pts es I think its a fair deal.
One thing I have seen again and again is they bombard you with upsales can this be turned off?
