Has anyone experieneced a Server 503 error for a third-party indicator when starting NT v8? After purchasing a series of indicators with no problem over the last few years, all of a sudden today when opening NT I get that error for one of the indicators. Granted it seems like a simple "their server to check in with is down" however I got to thinking that this could be a big problem if the website goes out of business or even if the owner is sick for a length of time.

I know the simple answer is to not use indicators or to develop my own. Skipping that, what are folks doing to ensure what they use and have paid for works?

I suppose another topic is if I have purchased a life-time license for an indicator, and if it has phoned home, why don't we have a system like the Apple App Store (Ninja App store) that basically serves as a guarantor that the indicator meets guidelines and a financial transaction has occurred? That way the only dependency would be that NinjaTrader goes out of business or that we go from v8 to v9.

Perhaps it is just the weekend, but as I prep for daytrading the ES on Monday I find it disconcerting that the actual website for the indicator is down as well as whatever check-in server they use.

On another note, I would think this thread would garner a lot of attention given the fact there is another busy thread on here detailing the software bought/money spent.

If the purchased indicators were used as my primary decision making, I would not trade tomorrow. Fortunately, they are part of a secondary filter I use and more for establishing a confidence factor in taking a trade.

Any comments? Surely this must have happened to others. I think the on NT boot check in process just to use an indicator that you have paid for (confirmed) is fundamentally flawed. I completely understand the need for a process, I think not being able to use it if there is a failure is the problem. Google store and Apple have figured this out for years. The only app problems for them occur when there is an OS upgrade or an upgrade to the App. In both cases you can revert and you are good to go. In the NT indicator case, you are out of luck. The software is performing a licensing check and because the vendor server is down....no indicator.

Thoughts?

Unless the vendor is taking care of their own authentication...

The following outlines the authentication process of NinjaTrader.

1. Authentication is checked on NT's primary license server.
2. If the primary server times out, it spills over to the secondary server.
3. If the secondary server times out, a check is performed on the local PC.

NinjaTrader stores the last known authentication state on the users PC in the event of primary and secondary server failures allowing the user to continue using their licensed products. On subsequent authentication, the local cache is of course updated.

There has never been a time in NinjaTrader’s existence where both license servers have failed.
