I am a beginner trader with a background into tech and especially anything that has to do with open source, linux etc.
Since one year ago I only traded using software running on windows. But at this point I am fed up from most of the issues coming by that. I am looking for alternatives into switching completely to a linux/MacOS environment.
I am starting this thread looking for any good recommendations from any one trading already or tried trading in such an environment.
Mostly interested in manual trading and building strategies I can then backtest and optimize so they generate signals to assist me into my day-trading.
So far after testing most of the major platforms the only one that seems to meet most of my needs is Sierra Chart running on linux under wine emulation. Does anyone runs SC with Wine either on linux or MacOS long enough to be able to provide feedback if its stable enough?
For backtesting the best software that meet my needs on windows is the Strategy Analyzer of Ninjatrader 8. I can optimize also on data series and seems to be a complete solution for my needs but if you start continuous tests running in batches of thousands memory management seems bad, many times it gets stuck and generally behaves like any other .net application... If anyone knows any app or framework that can be used to build a replacement, please share.
Running Windows VMs is already tested and its out of the question as solution at least for myself due to performance drawbacks.
Hopefully this will start a good discussion and sharing of information with anyone interested.
