Hey Everyone

I purchased lifetime license for ninjatrader. I was previously using TOS to trade live. I use my work PC to trade. I currently have a 2013 IMac at home. I usually just remote desktop into my work PC via VPN. I have only sim traded this way until I am confortable with ninjatrader. When I go live I would like to use my home computer while I am not at work. I see I can download VMware fusion and install window 10. This would enable me to use my iMac. However my iMac is almost 7 years old. I am trying to decide if I should buy a new iMac or MacBook pro. These are expensive options. Or I might go PC? I am trying to decide if I want to purchase a laptop or a desktop. I don't really want to spend more than $1500. Would like to keep it under $1000.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi gonzo719

A question related to the location of this thread - is there a specific reason you have to post this topic in The Elite Circle?

If not, I can move it to Off-Topic --> Tech Support which is usually where PC specs and technology are discussed.

Thanks.

No problem, I thought I'd ask in case you wanted it in Elite area for a reason.

Moved to Tech Support.

What I personally do is buy referbed computers that recently were the greatest thing and mod them to my needs. I don't use many indicators or have many screens so for me this is how I get the best bang and don't end up with a bunch of Junk I don't want.

Oh and I use a PC, seems like the trading world doesn't offer a lot in the realms of MAC options.

I would suggest you figure out what you are running and go from there, I know guys on here do use MAC's but it seems like they always have to convert PC programs to run them.

I don't know whats around you but I personally get all my stuff from Micro Center, normally the cheapest around and the staff actually knows what they are doing.

Hi Gonzo,
I have both, and good PC and an older MacPro ( 2012 I think). They Mac gives much less problems than the PC and I do like it. But windows 10 seems to be much better now. The problem is, as I am sure you already know, there is very little when it comes to trading software for a mac. I got the Mac for some personal video editing and some writing programs. I don't see any reason to upgrade my Mac. It works great, runs all new programs and never gives me problems.
I am currently thinking of a new computer, and my choice is a PC-Desktop for sure. It's half the price, twice the RAM/SSD.
Take care,
K

Whichever route you decide, for live trading, going with a PC will serve you better.

I was trying some demo trading (with MC, not NT) using Windows 10 hosted in VMWare Fusion on a Macbook Pro. And while this is great for testing out the software and sim trading, it probably won't work as well for live trading (depending on how you trade, as compared to a PC, either laptop or desktop.)

I experienced app freezes in Windows and audio glitches, the laptop heating up. I think there will be other small problems that you just wouldn't have to deal with on PC hardware. Using a VM effectively may require most of your CPU resource on the MacBook. In other words, you'll be more likely to be a millionaire in 10 weeks with a PC.

@gonzo719,

Depending on how many indicators/charts/monitors you are using and what type of trading you are doing, any one of these configurations would be fine. These are Canadian prices so US prices will be cheaper. Just find similar specs from a computer store near you or online.
