NT8: The process of attaching a pending buy or sell to say the 34ema is tedious. At least 5 keystrokes along with navigation of several drop down windows to get to the chart indicator list to make your selection. Is there a way to automate some or all of this process?

Best Regards,

By mentioning them, as above, they will most likely now see this question and be able to respond.

Best Regards,

If there are clear conditions when this would occur, you could write a strategy to do this and automate it, otherwise its a manual process.

Hi @Flyboy1966

I've used this method in live trading and it works pretty well without having to write any code.

Basically, In addition to your main analysis chart, you have one small chart running with one indicator and have chart trader open but hidden.
All your charts with chart trader open (or hidden) are linked and you can move or change any order in any chart.
You can enter an order on your main chart (set your ATM first) and attach it to an indicator on another chart. Once the order is filled you can attach the stop order (or target) on an entirely different chart.
It's literally, click on order, ctrl-click, enter. Try it in sim. Once you get used to it, it will be second nature.

If you try to attach the order in your main chart with multiple indicators and click on the order and press ctrl-click, the order will try and attach to the closest indicator. So, it can work, but not as good as a small chart with a single indicator.
You really need to play around for a day or two in sim and make as many mistakes as you can.

Thanks, I'll try that out..... I wonder if you can use that idea with a different ATM strategy to be able to buy if price goes above a value and at the same time have a sell set up if price goes below a set value...

Sounds like in this scenario you need OCO orders and you are good.

Thanks, I'll work on that.... I have always just traded manually so I have trouble understanding things like buy stop limit and so forth... oco is pretty simple, I will practice using that... Speaking of such things I've watched NT vid's on the DOM just confuses the shit out of me..... They certainly do not have any really good staff that knows how to teach... yes I know they will read this..... Lol's

Btw, I'm getting close to leaving NT all together, any suggestions for stable trading platforms would be appreciated. Have to say that coming from Mt4, ninja does beat that out... especially NT8 but it is just not very stable, seems like you always have to screw with it to look the same.... sorry just ranting

Hi @Flyboy1966

NT8 is pretty stable if you have a good computer, use an SSD and have a low packet-loss internet connection.
Poorly written indicators and add-ons are what make it unstable.

One way to check on CPU utilization of indicators in a workspace:
New > NinjaScript Output > right click > NinjaScript Utilization Monitor
https://ninjatrader.com/support/helpGuides/nt8/en-us/?output.htm

Another thing: Data base needs to be cleaned up (or deleted) or you will see degradation in performance over time.
(I'm not going to go into it here because it requires resetting / deleting db directory.) If you trade real money and are serious, you will keep the db as small and well kept as possible.

Also use Tools > Export > Backup File and Backup.
Delete NT8 (using Windows Programs and features) and also delete your Documents\Ninjatrader 8 directory.
Reinstall NT8 and restore NT8 backup file.

If you like chart trading, many traders like Sierra Charts.
If you like DOM trading, many traders (including me) use Jigsaw Daytrdr.

Hope that helps,

Best Regards,

Vote for that option here. https://forum.ninjatrader.com/forum/ninjatrader-8/strategy-development/1049846-adding-attach-to-indicator-within-the-atm-strategy-parameters It can be done if NT decides to add it. Otherwise it could be programed.
