I am new to futures and opened an account with AMP planning to sim trade for a while . I want to build TPO/footprint into my process but realised that I need to pay an extra $25pm to do this with Sierra Chart. I am a cheapskate and do not want to pay $25pm just to sim trade!

I see that AMP provide a lot of free or inexpensive platforms. Can anyone recommend a cheaper option for TPO/footprint/numbersbars?

I am pretty sure you can get all of that from NinjaTrader 7 and the Gomi tools available here on FIO, for free if you are in SIM.

Since I never used Gomi and I stopped using NT version 7 I can't confirm but perhaps someone else can step up and do so.

Due to an old business issue between AMP and NT, new traders at AMP cannot use NinjaTrader. There is a date before which existing NT license holders with AMP are grandfathered in, but I don't recall what it is, and it is years ago.

So that won't help.

Bob.

PS, Now that NT has its own brokerage, there aren't too many brokers where you can use NT. There is a list on their website, and it's short.

Thanks for pointing that out Bob, I have removed my original suggestion.

Try Multicharts platform(.net) that is free and has some market profile.
But being a "cheapskate" when it comes training on a platform(that may be very valuable) is not a good idea in this business. Sierra is built for this utility.

You could always switch to Infinity Futures (IF). They have descent commissions and you get Free Sierra Charts (SC) if you do 10 round trips a month. You can start with as little as $3000 (I would recommend more of course) and they have low martin (use with caution of course). Their customer service is great (my agent is Patrick Zeilbauer), they respond to email VERY fast during the trading day. They also have a FANTASTIC YouTube channel (that channel and the Futures.io usually suck up about 6 hours of my day!) with TONS of how to videos for learning SC, plus they FULLY support SC, so if you have any questions or issues they take care of you (compared to SC direct, who's support is a bit lackluster IMO....they do try to help, but they can be a bit rude, again IMO....but if all you need is help then who cares). They have good rates on data too...only pay about $18 a month. If you're interested I recommend contacting Patrick directly and discussing (312-373-6228 / [email protected]). All in all, I'm pretty happy with them. I also have an IB account and pay for SC...but I will be shutting that down now that I'm focusing on IF 100%.

Good Luck!
Randy
