Digital back up NT8 across multiple drives - How To?
Not sure where to post this (under Tech section or here under Ninjatrader).
I am looking for a backup solution for Ninja, which will be thorough, both in the case of a PC meltdown and also, because my 250 SSD is starting to get to its limit and I need to replace it with a greater capacity. My concerns are to preserve all my NT8 workspaces, settings and all indicator studies.
Anyone with a good knowledge of NT 8 and the below specs: I'd love a practical simple analysis and feedback on the below...thank you.
On my trading computer I have a 250SSD for NT8 and my OS and all my files + 2nd internal drive 750 HD in my PC. I run Casper Secure Drive which makes bootable back-ups to my 750 HDD. It can also make bootable back ups to another designated (external) drive. I run the latest version of NT8 64 bit on Windows 10
Q1- If I upgrade my 250SSD to a 500 SSD, can I bring over all the data from my 750 HD and boot up NT8, as per normal, or will I need to be aware of anything within NT8's folders etc, before I back up?
Q2- I will have a 2nd external drive, also as bootable drive, kept off-site. Plus I plan to back up all my data and OS to an external cloud based back up service such as Backblaze (dot) com (not tried them yet). After a PC meltdown, will I be able to bring back all boot up NT8 s per normal, or will I need to be aware of anything within NT8's folders etc, before I back up to the cloud?
Simple just run NT backup, upload the backup copy to Google drive along with your license key. You can test it by going to a new machine download and install a brand new NT, download your back up copy and run restore. I do it all the time. If restore doesn't work, copy the entire /bin folder to the new NT should work.
Usually, i make an image of my hard drive. In case my hard drive has a crash or i have a virus...i simply restart with the image and your are within a few minutes trading again.
Of course you have to do it on a regular basis as only the data of the date from the image will be on it.
