I use Tradenavigator from Genesis for charting. Tradenavigator has got a "Sweet Seasonal Spot" feature, which lists seasonal oppotunities in commodities and calender spreads.

I am not new to futures spreads, but I haven't traded calender spreads yet. When Tradenavigator says "KC: Jul - Mar", does it mean "Coffee contract July 2019 long / Coffee contract March 2019 short", or is it "... / Coffee contract March 2020 short"? Even the Genesis support was not sure about that. Is there a general syntax for calender spreads?

Usually the first two contracts are meant, in this case KCN9-KCH9.

But I would ask the Genesis support to have this issue checked carefully. It is not acceptable to answer: "We are not sure about ..."

Best regards, Myrrdin

Yes myrrdin is the expert, but you only have to watch how long this trade should last, it is a 2 day trade, so why you should take a contract without volume.

Thank you very much for your replies, myrrdin and tr8er, that helps me a lot. Usually the support at Genesis is great, but I think this time I chatted with someone being new at the helpdesk. She asked me several times to wait some time to ask colleagues, so I did not have confidence at all.

I am also customer of Genesis, and I am surprized they did not answer this question properly.

I suggest to send them your question via email. Your email will be forwarded to a person being able to give you a correct and complete answer.

Best regards, Myrrdin
