Hello folks. I don't think I'm computer illiterate, but I would say that my knowledge is pretty basic, so I thought I'd post here in the hopes of getting some advice.

I'm thinking of purchasing the computer above as a dedicated, relatively entry level, trading machine.

What the machine will be used for:
- Investor R/T with 4-6 charts open and a quoteboard.
- NinjaTrader 8 with a DOM and control panel.

That's essentially all it will do. Charting and order entry. Maybe a little excel or google sheets for journaling but no surfing the web or leisure. My trading is intraday, 3-7 trades each day, for reference.

This computer has:
- A decent graphics card that supports 3 monitors
- A fast processor
- Decent hard drive, though not SS.

SO....my question for those with more computer knowledge than myself....anything glaring wrong with purchasing this computer for my needs? Or any advice that would put me another way?

I feel my needs are pretty basic, I just want a decent machine with good computing and graphics horsepower....a decent operating system....and no crapware installed. Will this machine get it done?

Thank you in advance for anyone with knowledge here that takes the time to respond!!

Do yourself a favour and get a SSD. Keep the spindle drive for backups and bulk storage. Makes a world of difference.

Yes, this will get it done. It's more than you need, really. It doesn't take all that much to be able to trade, especially if you don't need a huge number of charts and such. People overestimate or overstate the computing power needed by traders.

And yes, with all that said, an SSD would be a good thing. Not necessary, but good. You will load from (and save to) the drive much faster, which will sometimes matter, but otherwise your actual trading will pretty much be the same.

Bob.

Get a SSD as in "this computer seems viable but I'd also recommend purchasing an external SSD along with it"...?

Thank you for the reply.

Bob.

My laptop has an SSD, it's a pretty good machine all around. It seems like it starts up very quickly which is great. In practice I don't notice much other difference with it but my use is pretty light.

Thank you for the replies.

Windows 10 cold boot. With a ssd I'm logged in and ready to go in under 7 seconds!
The machine you are considering will get it done but my suggestion is that since you are spending the money you may as well substitute the spindle for an ssd ( the most obvious bottleneck). Do a Google search on read/write comparisons between the two....ssd are not slightly faster they are magnitudes faster.

So are you suggesting:
1.) get this machine and separately purchase an SSD to swap in to an available slot?
2.) get this machine and get an external SSD to boot from?
3.) find a machine w/ the same specs but also an SSD and buy that.

Sorry for being so slow this is not my area of expertise haha.

Thanks again for the replies.

The reviews for that company....Skytech....seem somewhat mixed on Amazon. Esp. w/ the one model they offer similar to whats above but w/ SSD.

I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and get something from alienware or falcon computers. Something along the lines of 16+ RAM and an SSD. It'll probably be around $1200 plus from either of those.

As stated SSD Drives are significantly faster than a traditional hard drives. The downside is if an SSD drive fails you lose everything while with a traditional drive, you'll normally be able to recover everything, depending upon the failure though will depend upon whether that's easy or very expensive.
