I have been away from active trading (12) since 1995 when my job requires 80% travel. I have been dipping my toe in the water for a couple of years constrained by 401 k rules and Fidelity. I have only been able to actively sell option premium within existing constraints. I am looking to break out of Fidelity but want to stay within a 401k.

My questions revolves around getting set up with the right tools, so software and hard are the immediate concern. I am trying to identify the tools I really need to trade successfully again. The trading world has changed dramatically since I was active. Software will be a determining factor as to what kind of hardware I will need. I think I have narrowed it down to 2 packages that I have read some excellent reviews.

Ninja Trader 8
Pros: reviews say it is fast, has a lot of 3rd party software (indicators), back testing, automated trading capability, reasonably priced, large choice of brokers.
Cons: bogs down on heavy volume days, no stocks, ETF's or options

Sierra Charts
Pros: reviews say it is fast, does not bog down on heavy trading days, back testing, reasonably priced, large choice of brokers, has stocks

Cons: reviews say it is harder to learn than NT8, limited 3rd party indicators.

Hardware, I build all my own computer systems, the question is what can the software take advantage of (how many core & threads), how much RAM able to use effectively, does it have good RAM management, how high is the resolution of the graphics can generate and what is planned in the next generation, how many monitors and resolution for this and the next generation. I try to build systems that will last this and the next generation or 2 if lucky.

Network: One is generally constrained by the local loop providers. Any benefits of using a VPN? Providers?

3rd party vendors NT8
What experience have members had with Fibozachi and Pure Financial Academy? Do the achieve what they claim? I am open to what actually works and I would appreciate everyone's advice and experience with these and other vendors. Generally looking to trade Supply & Demand reversals. I would like to start out developing rules using SPY then move back into the S&P 500 once I work things out to scalp a few points everyday.

Historical Data: I would like to be able to have 20 - 30 years of end of day info on stocks and ETF's and perhaps the last 10 years of tick data, and I would like 20 30 years of tick data on futures and Forex major pairs.

This maybe several threads but I think I have covered the main themes before getting into strategies and training. I f anyone thinks of anything else that needs to be addressed please add your thoughts.

Thank-you!
