When using Renko bars for ES futures, when the price retraces, what determines whether the Renko bars simply reverse with the chart essentially moving backwards VS getting a reverse bar down BUT with forward movement of the chart, with continued downward movement resulting in a price decline BUT with forward chart movement? I hope I have made my question clear?? and would appreciate any incite that might explain the reason for different direction of chart movement with a price decline. I have tried to figure this out but guess I don't have the smarts. Thank very much for any input

Here is a good video about what UniRenko is and how it works.

Thank you very much for the wonderful information on Renko bars and their utility. There is an abundance of very useful in your video...I'll do my best to absorb the great info. I hope I can replay it enough times to make my self understand why the chart moves forward or backwards when a price retracement or price decline occurs. Perhaps it has something to do with the trend/reversal/offset settings that you mentioned I'm embarrassed to admit I am unclear on those terms.
I appreciate your comments/suggestion about UniRenko...I need to look into that and will do so.
Thank you, again, for the info. Excellent stuff!

great insight here.

do you have any recommendation for setting the size versus the inherent volatility of a product?
