I listened to recorded pod cast about order flow - google ben orderflow EP 093 if interested.. The speaker indicated he is a short term scalper, entering on market "rotations". He indicated the oil market rotation was about 10. I think he implied 10 tics as 10 points would be a lot.

What would the definition of rotation imply in this context? Pull backs? Other?

Even if market goes in a trend up or down, it does that in waves, not in a straight line.

during an uptrend, the market will rotate, big move up, smaller move down, big move up, smaller move down

When the market changes from going up to down, that is called a rotation

It corresponds to a change from buyers dominating to sellers dominating

Watching order flow, you effectively see that rotation kicking in

For beginners it is said, best is to trade WITH the trend, not against the trend
if the trend is up, you see a rotation down, you would then try to jump on it
when the rotation back up kicks in...

good luck !

Excellent answer @rleplae right on the money.

I'd like to add that the market can have rotational days as well. Rotating from the high of the range to the low of the range over and over.

A rotational day is typically indicative of traders being non-committal and the market going from to long > short > long > short etc, and rotating back and forth.

Market profile is useful in recognizing rotational days and the end result is a market profile print that's relatively balanced and looks like a bell curve standing on the Y-axis.

ever market moves a little different but for the most part after the market moves x you will see a snap back of y. i do not trade crude but i will use the ES for a example. after a 10 to 12 tick move you will see a 4 to 6 tick rotation 80% of the time..a rotation for a sclaper is a quick snap back. there trading micro structure and trying to out trade algos. if you are in a trade room ..the odds are high they are just playing trader. in 8 years i never seen a trade room trader that could trade..hope it helps
