Nootropics are supplements that help or improve cognitive functions. If you've seen the movie Limitless with Bradley Cooper, the smart drug he takes is essentially a super nootropic. These supplements are found to increase memory, creativity, multi-tasking abilities, etc.

Basically it helps with focus and the ability to retain information.

I recently ordered L-Theanine, L-Tyrosine and Choline which in combination with caffeine has show to promote alertness, attention and multitasking effects. It also has been proven to give a more relaxed alertness and focus vs. the buzz you get from a red bull or an XL coffee.

Has anyone tried nootropics to aid in their trading and has it helped?

Will report back once I get them and try them out for a week or so.

I've seen an increase in the amount of articles and discussion on nootropics in recent months. I would be very war of anything that hasn't been tested for a long time in a laboratory and undergone extensive tests.

Likewise it seems 'micro-dosing' has become quite popular in the tech industry, as it is rumoured steve jobs used to micro dose lsd to help his creativity.

With both of these I would always be wary of the detrimental effects after prolonged use. Like the film you mentioned, Limitless, there is usually a cost.

Stating the obvious that nootropics is a perfect area for scammers to sell adulterated supplements (why not include a little bit of caffeine or dexy).

There have been plenty of times in my life when I needed to be temporarily smarter. As a top IT consultant I got paid to jump into the middle of messy projects and see a clear path. Untying the Gordian knot every week is exhilarating but painful.

My two cents:

1. Supplements work if you have a deficiency or chronic condition but none seem to help with prolonged use, you just level out absorbing as must as you need. Eating a green banana for potassium has helped me more when my brain felt flat more than anything. Conversely, for some reason a lot of fruit knocks the hell of of my testosterone levels (measured) when it helps most men. Learned this as a swimmer and T levels are vital for mental as well as physical in men.

2. You don't get smarter just sitting on your ass, you have to exercise the brain a lot like an athlete until difficult tasks become less and eventually not mentally tiring. When I started trading I was mentally exhausted in two hours. Now I can maintain focus for several to a dozen.

Coincidence or genius? Brian from Limitless TV show.
