MultiCharts has convinced me they cannot produce my code

I searched out this discussion board today after it began to dawn on me that the code I commissioned MultiCharts to write was beyond them.

It's so simple I can't imagine why this would be the case, but after many days of them dodging my calls and promising revised code that never materializes - I'm ready to reverse the charges on my Amex and move on. Two questions:

1) Have any of you had positive experiences with MC custom programming?
2) Can you suggest a programmer with good credentuals who can accomplish the project.

Thanks for all your help.

It might help to give the scope of the project.

Yes I too spoke with MC to develop my day trading strategy into system based. I provided them with a reasonably detailed word doc which included description and images, note my strategy is not sophisticated (trend catching stuff with good risk mgnt).

I did not get a good feel from them eg, limited discussion on the doc, was not able to speak with the programmer (sales guy only) and they wanted 100 hours to code my work. Made a few rounds with them esp noting it was far to much time / a coder experienced in this field could crank it out within 10-20 hours ...

Generally poor communications and again unable to speak with those who would do the work (coder him/her-self) to speak to details etc.

I think MC does a great job of platform development, however I would be careful to use their custom coding services. Your experience is my confirmation - thanks.

You might try scriptlance.com, there are a couple of EasyLanguage programmers there. Just use caution, it will be cheaper but there is higher risk of your code being distributed without your knowledge or consent.

There's also a reputable guy on the MultiCharts support forum that posts very often, Bruce DeVault I think his name is, you might check him out.

Just curious, how do you know how long your request takes to evaluate, code, and test? Did you get other bids in that range, or ?

I got quotes from 3 other programmers who provided similar time & money estimates (10-30 hour range).

Given MC's platform capabilities and the rate at which MC rolls out new releases, they clearly have good programmers. In my mind, the reason for the large gap for custom coding work is likely due to focus and bandwidth of staff (working on platform rev's).

Bandwidth problems should extend the delivery date, but not inflate the hours estimate. That's messed up. Glad you got multiple bids.

nobody can program a system in 10-30 hrs.

the actual coding may take ~10 hours,
but the back-and-forth discussion, clarification, revision, testing and verification will take weeks, if not months of chargeable time.

or maybe... your job was too small for them to bother?
