Excuse me that my english is not good enough.
In this thread I would like describe my way how to do statistic of trades (backtest, paper, live)
And how to get informations more easy. In other words you get a your own custom dashboard with trades.
Let's assume that you can export your trades to csv files.
I choose csv files because when I add another csv file to folder, my dashboard will be automatically add data from it when the excel file is opened (or you can refresh all from ribbon)
It's important that all csv files have the same formating of delimiters, date formating, etc.
And of course every csv files must have the same columns.
This screenshot is an example how can it be.
The dashboard is interactive, so when select "All months" from MonthName and "9, 10, 11, 12" from EntryHour, and only some strategies from StrategyAbbreviations the graph is immediately recalculated
I don't have yet whole text for this thead, so I will continue with this in additional posts to this thread
It is welcome to new ideas what graphs and criteria in dashboard you want have.
Not all I can do, but If you know excel it is very easy.
If no I try explain the most interesting ideas.
System requirements:
Any version of Windows and MS Excel at least 2013. I have Excel 2013 Professional Plus
In excel we needed instaled two addins PowerQuery and PowerPivot. All from MS.
I do not know if standard version of excel or excel 2010 has some limits in functionality in relations to this dashboard
PowerPivot is available for excel 2010, but PowerQuery not, I think, but it is possible replace it (and csv files) with MS access or another database (MS SQL Server, MySQL, etc)
32bit vs 64bit?
64bit is better for a lot of data, more about this here But now I have 32bit excel
CSV is best for this for it's simple usage.
For example when, we don't want some strategy in dashboard or we need add some new strategies, only delete or copy csv file(s) from this folder and then open dashboard excel file
Part 1: Preparation of environment
At first create a some folders:
D:\Trading\TradingLogDashboard
and subfolder
D:\Trading\TradingLogDashboard\CSVs
in the CSVs subfolder we will save csv files with trades
I recommend one CSV file for trades of one strategy. It's not neccesary but if you do this way, you remove trades from dashboard simply by deleting the CSV file
