I have been using NT7 since it was released (years). I have like 5 thousand of lines of code invested.... but I am continually frustrated with the platform's ability to meet my needs.
Goals:
1) Autotrade using IB Canada - Advisor account (trades multiple accounts under that at once)
2) Use Multiple time frame - IE: 30 Min and Range 40 and Range 30 and Range 20 at once
3) Market replay to fine tune strategy coding
4) Optimization of parameters to fine tune strategy coding
ISSUES:
A) Still working on Autotrade with IB Canada. I can use a single account, but not Advisor reliably.
B) Multiple time frames using CCI, FisherTransform and (from what NT Support tells me) doesn't work in NT8 Beta 8 - known issue
Issues and questions with Sync Secondary series with CCI - NinjaTrader Support Forum (
C) NT7 also has issues calculating multiple time frame values for CCI, FisherTransform and others. I get differences in values from what is displayed on the screen (not multiple time frame), and what is calculated in my strategy.
D) Market replay on NT7 slows down to a complete stop at around noon in 1 days playback - it is unusable (NT won't fix NT7)
Market Replay too slow - NinjaTrader Support Forum (
E) Because I can't replay, I can't fine tune my strategy, and I have difficulty debugging things.
F) Because my strategy is based on multiple time frames, I can't use NT8 yet, which would fix the replay.
G) NT7 performance numbers for strategies don't seem to calculate correctly, so I don't really use them. I haven't really tested these in NT8 yet due to the above problems. If I re-load my NT Strategy script, my performance numbers are completely wrong, my entries are not correct compared to market replay values. I have had to export these trades from IB and build Excel spreadsheets for the analysis.
CONCLUSION: I can't complete my strategy, I can't autotrade live (only using paper accounts now), I can't track my performance using the NT tool.
SOLUTION 1: I wait for NT8 BETA 9 to come out with the fix to multiple time frames and progress from there.
SOLUTION 2: I explore an alternative platform - and this is what I wanted to discuss with this forum. What is out there that can do what Ninjatrader 8 is supposed to do that works now? The only thing that I can come up with AmiBroker.
How does AmiBroker compare to Ninjatrader when it comes to:
I) Autotrade IB Broker connection and operation - do they have MATURE methods that will provide value to integrate and manage the trades?
II) Ami doesn't work with Kinetick, but that isn't too big of an issue
III) Multiple time frames and management
IV) I know their programming isn't as clear to use as event driven programming like NT.
I'd like to hear from members that have tried AmiBroker or other systems that I could possibly replace NT with.
