I was just wondering if anybody thought of a VR helmet solution for trading instead of multiple screens - the tech is not quite there yet but in the future this may be very interesting. Additionally can solve many issues with distractions etc.
From what I have seen with it in flight sims the resolution isn't great. It is 1080p but the pixels are spread farther across the FOV making small text at distance hard to read.
I had the same idea though with Microsoft's Hololens...
I have a pair of the Gear VR and I tested a few things, so far it fail miserably. I drink a lot of coffee, had to take it out every time I had a sip, I have kids running around in the house, have to take it off every time they come in the office, If I have a phone call, have to take it off, just a pain every time in a number of ways. great for movies tho. Considering a laser projector when they come out.
That's very disappointing really ... but I found that my eyesight suffers a lot after longer use, I'm a bit suspicious as there hasn't been any good study proving or disproving it's safe and not damaging.
Apart from environment related issues how do you find it? Is the resolution ok etc? What would make it ideal for charts and trading in your opinion?
Resolution is not bad, for movies is awesome ... but it is 'new' technology so nothing is going to be pretty amazing for another 5 years or so.. I have 3- 70' screens in the office so everything has big fonts and I'm about 10 feet from them, that's been the solution to eye problems right now, with a projector you can have a huge field of view and stay even farther and make things even bigger but most projectors suck in daylight and I have ton of windows (except with some commercial projectors design for that stuff like presentations/colleges and such that I'm considering), so laser projectors seem to be a good spot, you get a great 4k 16 x 16 screen (or bigger/smaller) but that also is just coming out but that's the future in about 10 years, till then good HD TVs work for me.
