Is this site being transformed into a fully grown commercial website, or has the banner been added to improve information flow, or am I simple-minded.

I actually like the banner on the main page, but if I look for any thread or post, or if I use the search function, I now do not get what I am looking for, but I get the banner. Then I have to scroll down to look for the results.

I believe that banners are a way to differentiate serious websites from commercial ones. Did you ever see a flickering banner on the blog of Dr. Steenbarger? The banner, of course, will not take me out of this forum, but I take it as an omen.

This is only my personal impression. What is your opinion on this subject?

Really, an omen?

I don't follow. Is it something like this: "First, the guy celebrates his 1-year anniversary by giving away $ 4,000 worth of stuff, and then next..." what... what's the next part to fulfill the omen? Obviously, I am biased, but I'd like to hear your thought process as to how you think I am selling out or whatever is crossing your mind.

When you search using our whiz-bang search box top right, the box will overwrite the flash banner. If it doesn't, let me know what browser you are using. The banner should not be covering up any item on the menu bar.

As for scrolling down... sorry, I guess I can't please everyone! I figured most people would want to know how they could win one of the prizes, so I tried to make it prominent because I fell it's an important occasion and one to celebrate. The companies in the banner are ones I specifically approached because I felt their topics frequently resonate with traders here on futures.io (formerly BMT). Brooks for price action, IQFeed for data feeds, Mirus for brokerage, and MultiCharts and NinjaTrader as platforms -- each of these items comes up on a daily basis for discussion, so I invited these guys to come talk to us and hold a Q&A session where we can get some answers to questions that have been tossed around on the forum.

But now I am going to bed.... All this hard work on migrating the server to new hardware to make it faster for everyone, and then to finish this flash banner, well I guess I was just excited about it and was happy of our accomplishments here. And now this complaint about it, well makes me just want to log off for a bit... !

for me Fat Tails must have not really looked the banner or not have read all the things there + in the linked thread -

otherwise he would have seen that its a banner for our futures.io (formerly BMT)- Birthday-party-events with tons of prizes for our members and not for to commercialize futures.io (formerly BMT) !

Sorry Mike,

I did not want to offend you. I do appreciate all the efforts that you have put into this forum. This is my favourite place on the web, and I just like it the way it is. I got lots of contacts and information through this forum and I try to do my best to give some valuable inputs as well.

Maybe, I am just oversensitive to the information overload that we need to process every day. I love clean charts to trade and well structured and clean websites, where I do not feel being assaulted. My personal experience with other websites has created a sort of Pavlov's reflex to banners and popups. I have a negative attitude towards them, even if intention and contents do no justify this.

I just expressed my initial feelings without looking closely at the contents of the banner and without realizing how much work you have put into this. I would appreciate, if you accepted my apologies for the superficial reaction.

Hi Fat Tails,

Yes of course I accept the apology. I have always thought your posts were very informative and that you wanted to truly help people. That's why I asked for your help to host a fibonacci webinar, because of your knowledge and your intent to help, and I think that's also why your first post hit me so hard, because I felt you are exactly the kind of trader I am targeting here on futures.io (formerly BMT) to help grow the community, and I felt really bad that I had somehow failed you or misread you.

But, it's all good now. I appreciate your reply to clear things up, and I hope you have a good weekend.

Mike

Ive been around here since the start and enjoyed mikes blog before that and he has proven to me hes not a sellout in any way . Anyone that has ever been involved at most ( not all ) forums catering to online trading knows that this is a well run operation and the mods dont take any crap so they keep it free of counterproductive participants .

Even if Mike sold ad space or had neon flashing banners whats the difference - as long as the standards dont change .

I came here to have a peaceful , easy to access spot to keep my thoughts and trades in a journal and to share and view others thoughts and ideas . Try doing that on ET - youll be flamed and distracted more than anything .
