app proposal - improving NT failover. thoughts?

Hi,

I am proposing to build an add-on to NT8 with the following functionality:

- draw and store NT8 data in a local database;
- interface C#, Python or Java code to read data and send orders;
- handle fail-over;
- handle broker-script order discrepancies.

I'm collaborating on the specs with some experienced algo traders and I am researching the potential interest in it.

I can turn it into a product to help you solve these NT issues.

Your thoughts?

An open data-feed interface and order feed interface would be a nice improvement to the current NT functionality.

But this requirement is most likely against the strategic interest of NT. Don't forget that they are amongst others also a brokerage themselves and not only a platform provider.

It is however not too complicated to figure out how to build your own datafeed.
I did this for myself because i needed data that wasn't available through my datafeed provider.

I agree with you rleplae. I will consider what to do with the datafeed interface...

What about the features of handling fail-over and broker-script order discrepancies?
Also this would allow you to trade any two strategies at the same time, which some traders find very useful.

NT8 (like NT7) already have its own database, so I don't see the point here.

The "broker-script order discrepancies" is already manageable, I don't get where an add-on could do.

In this case a reliable failover system is tricky to setup: you'll need at least two Ninja instances in two different locations with different communication links (with no SPOF) between the two instances, a reliable STONITH (Shoot The Other Node In The Head) procedure, ...
That will be a bunch of complex code and a complex architecture, which is not compatible (IMHO) with a stable and reliable system.
I saw much much more outages because of complex (and with few bugs) failover software than outages because of hardware issues...
