Hi there I am trying to set up the email setting for alerts but cant seem to get it right. For gmail I used the following...

smtp server name - smpt.gmail.com
user name - [email protected]
password - my password
port - 456 (as well as 587)

I have read that gmail has some issues with 3rd party email access so I also tried my hotmail account with the server....

smtp.live.com

I get a failed to send messgage with both

Anyone get the to work for themselves?

Thanks

uspilotzzz,

it might just be typo in your post, but the port should be 465 according to the example MC provides and and you might want to check TLS/SSL required.
According to this post https://nexusfi.com/501742-post7.html you might have to enable your gmail account first, too.

Regards,

ABCTG

Thanks, ya that was a typo. I've seen that post as well as the instructions here which use gmail as an example so I'm not sure what isnt working right.

Local (Windows) firewall issue? Can you "telnet smtp.gmail.om 465" from a command line and have it connect?

BTW, you also had a typo in your host name (smpt) in addition to the port # being wrong.

Just a thought.

When using Yahoo as sender email address: (you might try using email addresses other than Gmail for receiving mail, as a test)

1. Check with yahoo for the proper smtp server name.. it's different for different email hosts..
2. Port 587 is correct, for mine.
3. smtp server authentication data, IS checked.
4. Then enter yahoo email address as username.. (Including @yahoo.com)
5. Yahoo password in the password entry spot.
6. smtp server security is UNchecked on mine.
7. Then use your gmail address at the bottom for recipient...

I've used it that way for years with no problems.
If you try these settings and try NOT using gmail at all and it still doesn't work it could be something like your anti-virus program blocking it, disable anti-virus and re-try.

Good luck !
