A happy thread aimed at the those who are hopelessly impaired where it comes to the fine art of cooking (even for bare survival).
Have a book or articles aimed at helping all of us? Fire away! I'm sure I'm not the only one sorely in need.
I'll kick things off with an interesting read called The 4-Hour Chef, by Timothy Ferriss. I figure if I can come away with one workable concept from a book, it's worth what I paid for it. I found several in this one, regardless of the fluff.
It is entertaining, but, for my tastes, far too complicated....
I can go as far as
(1) boiling water, but only for coffee,
(2) anything and everything in the microwave,
(3) eggs in a skillet.
Oh, and frozen pizza in the oven. So anything else is just overkill, as far as I'm concerned.
I think I am fully qualified for the title of the thread, but I also think I've just made my entire contribution.... That is, unfortunately, what you're likely to get when you appeal to incompetents at cooking.
I hope somebody else has something better to add. I can always learn, but, unfortunately, I'm not really going to work too hard at it. Part of not really being cut out for being a cook.
True, but the eggs will only go boom if you put them in the micowave while still in the shell.
Although it is absurd to do so, I have broken eggs into a container, scrambled them up a bit, and microwaved them. Easy eggs, no muss. (Water not needed.)
Not how I usually do it, because, although I'm lazy about cooking, I'm not really that lazy. (Most of the time.)
Like anything, if you start with the mindset that you are unable to do something you will just prove yourself correct.
A good method I find is:
1.Find 1 of the millions of recipes online that sound good
2.go to grocery store
3.purchase ingredients from recipe
4.follow the line by line directions of recipe
5. viola!
Of course. I guess for me it's just that I don't want to bother. I have done fairly elaborate meals but now feel OK with my basic list (including the frozen pizza), supplemented by takeout.
Bob - I know of both exploding eggs: WITH or without shells. In the first case you need to renovate
the whole kitchen though...
As for my cooking: living between France and Austria - we need to know kitchen and recipees.
I have to cook for a large family every day twice. That without microwave or fast food...
So some routine is there. And fresh meals.
