Scotty's Topstep Live Trader Prep Journal for the AMAZON GC
I saw Big Mike is having a journal contest and top prize is $250 Amazon-dollars, AND I WANT IT! So, in order to get votes I need to have good posts - make sense. I would love feed back. I'll be an open book for the month of July.
As of right now I'm in live trader prep portion of the TOPSTEP TRADER COMBINE.
As you can tell I started off in the Live Trader Prep, but the key to trading and Top Step Trading is having a risk limit, and stops placed so you don't break that risk limit. Now it took me awhile to find that out, but I figured it out. Also, what's great about risk limits and stops beside the obvious; is that it helps you develop confidence in your ENTRIES, because you will start to think about your STOPS 1st, and Entry trigger second.
for example: when I enter a trade I say "I want to get long, but where can I get long at with a good risk / reward...."
I'll talk more about this on the upcoming posts.
I trade CRUDE(CL) only.
Topstep 50K combine allows me to use a max 5 lots, but I only use a max of 3. I will never put a 4 or 5 lot on. Why? because Topstep wants to see you grind small winning days to show discipline and consistency. So, having 1000 dollar days isn't really worth it. Look on my combine I had an 85% winning percentage and they still made me do the live trader prep. So, got to dink and dunk and control your risk because they are going to make you do a 10 day live trader prep regardless.
I only trade 2 hours a day. That's it. 6am - 8am PST. That's the crude open and hours past. Why do I do this? because I tell myself "Yo homie, bring your A game for 2 hours, stay focus, stay alert" Usually that pumps me up in the morning hahah. I don't have that exact conversation with myself, but you get the point. Focus for 2 hours that's it.
I don't know what guys will find interesting, but tomorrow I will post my charts and pnl after I trade with a little write up, and then the topstep trade report later during the day.
Alright here is a screen shot of a 5 minute chart with the T4 ladder. I made 330 today.
Red and Blue X's are my fills. If it's hard to see let me know.
I had 3 trades.
1st trade was a loser with two lots on. price hit my stop. I was still bullish. so I re-entered with 2 lots again at a lower price, and with a tighter stop...and BOOM, and price did what I thought. ripped up!
my 3rd trade was a 1 lot trade based of the order book. I saw a 100 lot was offered up the book so I felt the book was going to try to fill it. So, I got long and placed my profit take right infront of the 100 lot and made a quick 5 ticks.
I'll post the topstep trade results once they are posted.
But yep, just stayed focus for two hours and then shut the computer down. No need to try to press for monster pnl days, because the combine and live trader prep doesn't really reward that. So dink and dunk lil 200-400 pnl days.
Alright if you got questions holler at me. I want to earn your votes.
Tomorrow Wednesday and you know what that means. Oil Inventory number. Topstep doesn't allow traders to carry a position into the number - not like I would. The allure of hitting a 100 tick winner isn't worth the feeling bombing out of a combine because 100 tick loser hahah.
So tomorrow, and every Oil Inventory number I'm usually pretty cautious of choppy moves the 1st hour and a half after the open, but if I see one of my set ups - i'm going to play it.
Then I'll let the # come out and see if I can find a good risk/reward spot.
Haven't gotten any feed back on here and i haven't had that many views....so it's not looking to good for me in the contest hahah
Hi Scotty,
I hope this reply find you well and wealthy . I was wondering if you still doing the combine with Topstep. The reason I'm asking because I would like to involve too and get the live TopStep account.
Any feedback from you would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
I have done two combines now during difficult periods of life and have run out of time each time.
I am dedicating to doing it now, but am concerned about what the "prep" time is after passing.
You posted you were in it...so can you explain what the different parameters were and if you got funded?
Thank you
