Hi All,

there is any easy way through Multicharts Portfolio Trader to set a Max Number of Open Position (like in amibroker) to reduce account size required in a TS portfolio ?
For example i would like, in a portfolio of 25 system, to limit the max number of open position at 15.

Regards

No Erocla,

you can do that from the code level and probably best with a money management signal.

I think anyway that the problem occurs when many signals are triggered togheter at the same time

Yes, but that's again where the Money Management Signal would come into play and only allow a certain number of entries to take place. The others couldn't go through without the Money Management allowing them first.

Even if 10 signals want to enter at the same time, but you only have 2 open spots left you can manage it properly, so only 2 spots would be entered.

Thank you for answer, maybe i've understood, but i think that the main problem persist when many signals are triggered exactly at the same time.

For example, i'm totally out from market and to the next bar 8 signals will be triggered at the same time, so what happen if i use GV or Portfolio trader and i want to limit signal to 3 per time?

At 11:00 o'clock 8 signals sees "empty slots", so if they are triggered exactly at the same time, they pass without seeing our portfolio management.

I think that the only way is to give a little delay to all signals (like 2-3 seconds but it means slippage...) so they have time to see if there's place for them

Thank you again and regards

They can't pass without going through the Money Management Signal first. This basically sits on top of your signals and ultimately allows or blocks an entry.
Take a look at the Portfolio Trader Manual, there are a couple of examples and graphics explaining the process.

So in the portfolio trader the priority is from top to bottom ? Is it correct ?

Thank you so much for your help and for your time ABCTG.

It depends on what you mean with priority. Your statement is too broad to give you an answer.

Check the portfolio backtesting diagram here (besides the other information in the link):
https://www.multicharts.com/trading-software/index.php/Understanding_Portfolio_Backtesting

Just because a symbol is calculated first doesn't necessary mean its entry takes place first.
