I've been using Interactive Brokers for a while and think their brokerage is great - low commissions, solid 24/7 support, and above all you can trade all products with one account.

The front end and delayed market data is awful though. I switched to Ninjatrader for front end and used Ninjatrader Brokerage (Dorman Trading) with free real time tick for tick data via CQG. It was a significant improvement.

However, Dorman Trading is an awful broker. Moving money costs $25 via wire (no ACH transfers). They messed up my commissions. The statements were wrong. Support takes days to come back.

I would like to have NT as my front end. IB as my broker. The problem is I need someone to provide market data. Kinetick charges like $200+ per month which is ridiculous.

Anyone know how I could use CQG or Rithmic as my market data provider and how much it would cost? I reached out their respective support teams earlier but wanted to see if anyone here had any success. Thanks!

I also use Kinetick with Interactive Brokers. It works well for futures.

You just first-connect to Kinetick and then second-connect to Interactive Brokers.

It gets more complicated, if you wish to trade FOREX and futures.

FOREX data should be taken from the ECN which is used for trading. You cannot go for FOREX trades on IdealPro with data from FXCM or Tenfore.

In that case you want to use FOREX data from Interactive Brokers and must pay attention to not loading backfill from Kinetick (not connecting when updating FOREX charts).

Is there a way that you could open a NT brokerage account and pay for live data through that but use IB for your trades?

I would guess you might incur a fee at some stage for a inactive account but surely it should still be less then $100/mth total inc data. If paid data services are around $100/mth it might be worth it. Not sure the minimum fund with NT broker. Or the other option is to place enough trades each month through NT so the inactive account fee never comes.

Just throwing ideas out for you

My setup is NT7 + IB + Kinetick since years now.

You only pay 70$ per month for Kinetick with level 1 data only; and it would be 90$ per month if you need level 2 data.
The exchanges you get are CME, ECBOT, NYMEX, and COMEX.

Make sure you activate the "Globex Non-Pro Fees", you are eligible to that with an IB account.
