Hey all,

I am currently getting historical daily data for a few hundred stocks from Google Finance into Sierra. For some reason no matter what data range I input in Chart Settings, it only downloads +-1 year worth of historical data.

However if I select Edit -> Download data-Historical Chart,... then I can input a date several years back and the download will work correctly giving me as much historical data as I want.

Does anyone know if this is a bug of some sort or if this is correct behavior. What this means is that to get several years worth of data for each stock I would have to go through each stock manually and select Edit-> Download data-Historical Chart. Not really ideal to do for hundreds of stocks.

Is this perhaps some kind of issue related to Google Finance / Sierra? Or is there another way to force Sierra to download the historical data based on the date range that I input into Chart settings.

This might be a workaround to your problem: Historical Stock Data You can buy 5 years worth of stock history for NYSE, NASD for 25 bucks. Then get updates for the next 3 years. This way you have the whole universe of stocks at your disposal.

You could also subscribe to IQFeed or Sierra data feed, both are cheap.

Thanks for the suggestions. I already use the Sierra datafeed for CME live data for intraday trading. However for my swing trading I trade South African stocks on the JSE exchange. Unfortunately data for the JSE is hard to find, especially data that can be used with Sierra. That is why im trying out Google Finance.

Never the less, I spent this morning going through 140 stocks manually in Sierra downloading 5 years worth of historical data for each stock from Google Finance. Everything is now up to date and ready to go.

Thanks anyway for the suggestions.
