Hello

Actually this is my first post after becoming an elite member

I have been using tradestation for a long time and last week I changed my platform to Sierra Chart.

It took me about 3 hours to make SC look similar to tradestation format.

So far I am quite impressed with Sierra Chart because it loads up instantly with more feature than what Tradestation could offer.

So the point of this thread is, are there any settings that I need to be aware of using Sierra Chart?

For example, I found out about chart refreshing rate so I lowered it to 10ms.

I am an intra-day day trader so fast update is very critical.

Anything else for the settings so that I can reduce dumb mistakes?

Couple more questions if anyone can answer it it would be great

1. For keyboard hotkey trade, does dom always have to be active? Sometimes I click on the chart and when I press hotkey no execution goes through; therefore, I have to click on dom before using hotkey. This is kind of annoying, but still it is much more convenient than Tradestation.

2. There is an option for automatically forwarding contract. Do you guys do it by days or volume? What is the best option here?

3. SC seems to only show net gain or loss on the dom without commission. Are there any fix for this?

Thanks in advance guys!

Congrats on switching. Give it some time and you will find many settings and features which you may find helpful. I'd say about 3-4 weeks of active use should give you time to really find out what it can do, and to tailor it how you want it. Best advice is to not worry about making "mistakes" and just play with the software and explore it.

If I'm understanding you correctly -- the DOM is a separate "chart" unto itself. So if you have a DOM open, it has to be the active window for hotkeys to work with it, I think. Otherwise, if you had multiple DOMs open, how would SC know which one the hotkey was directed to?

Depends on the contract. For equity index futures, a date is what most use. For crude oil, it would be volume-based, for example.

I do not know, but I don't think so. You can ask SC support.

I think Sierra Chart is a good software with very bad packaging (graphics).

I am pretty sure when newbies see this software for the first time they will be very disappointed.

After learning what SC can do, I am quite impressed!

I can't believe I have been using slow tradestation for so long!
