I'm seeking feedback from non-Elite Members who are:
1) Active in community
2) Been here a while
3) Have written several posts
Why are you not Elite?
I'm wanting genuine feedback, not smart remarks from fly-by-night guys or previously banned users just looking to create drama or are only here to download indicators.
I am trying to better understand the userbase and there are a certain small percentage of users that do fit the above criteria that I honestly cannot figure out why they spend a lot of time here but actively decide to boycott the Elite Membership side, which I think most people would agree is where the best content is.
From my perspective, they are trading which would lend itself to having the $100, they spend a lot of time on the site which would seem to indicate they like it, yet they are not Elite Members. So I'm simply wanting actual honest/truthful/real feedback as to the reasons from these users.
It seems to be a willful decision to NOT become Elite, instead of a "I'm not sure". I just want to understand the reasoning behind it, in case I have the wrong ideas.
First of all, I do like it here and as I have said often before it is the best stock market site that I have participated in for the last 10 years.
I am not a lurker here. I am not someone who silently cruises through the forums. I have a significant journal on this site where I display my brand of Technical Analysis and discuss Canadian stocks. I don't get a lot of feedback or discussion about my approach. I believe it to be quite viable for long term traders. But I am in the minority on this site in that respect. I don't do options, futures, short trading or intra-day trading.
With respect to the latter two types of trading, I think I might have something to offer but I am not confident enough about my thoughts to suggest changes to what I see currently done.
I don't use any of the trading platforms featured on this site, frankly I don't need them as I don't need data feeds and the costs associated with such a service. I don't need back testing software. In the last 10 years I have worked out my own back testing procedures.
I also trade primarily in the Canadian markets, I note there are several Canadians on this site but I believe most are not long term traders.
I don't have a lot in common on the trading side though I am currently doing some research of my own on a new type of chart. It is a quadrant analysis similar to a marketing analysis of a companies products (broken down in Dogs, Rising stars, Cash Cows and Question Marks)... not an analysis of multi-stocks but the individual stock as it moves in time. It is currently a work in progress but the results are looking promising. I may show the charts I get in my journal in the coming months but the details are proprietorial right now.
The problem with becoming an elite member is not money for me. Though I am of Scot decent and I don't spent money when I don't see the need. Do I feel like a freeloader??? Nopes, I believe my contributions to this site are significant and I can live within my skin because of it.
I don't really see what I would gain as an Elite member. There is a wall there and I have no idea what lies beyond that wall FOR ME. I can see there are resources and advice on topics and trading that is of no interest to me. What I DON'T see is if there is anything beyond that wall, beyond the camaraderie of being "elite". Being "elite" seems to be based on nothing more than $100... anyone can be "elite"

I'm shocked to see this post. Where does this "we elite members vs they NON-elite members" mentality come from? If members do not pay up for elite membership, they're frowned upon as second class citizen?
A lot of people use the forum for obscure purposes and they don't feel becoming elite would add to their experience. Maybe it's lack of threads on the subjects they're interested in or participation on their journal.

@Underexposed would it be fair to say you simply don't value the site enough to pay for it? Trying to get to the core thought process here, when I read your post it felt like your core message was lack of value.
What I've tried to do is make the community the product. I don't get people that want to see Elite content before paying. To me, the free content is the preview.
