Hello everyone,

I am wondering what is the proper way to install Tradestation on a second PC yet keep the exact same setup? Primarily I work off of a Main PC, but there are times when I need to use the other PC?

How can I copy all my indicators, files, etc. so that when I run Tradestation on the other PC, it looks exactly the same? I assume there is a simply way to do this (backup) but don't know what it is?

Any help would is greatly appreciated,
GRT

You can use the backup & restore functionality within Tradestation.

In addition to the backup/restore option, you could use something like Dropbox to sync your tradestation desktops/workspaces, etc. Dropbox won't sync your studies as they have to be imported on each machine but it will keep any changes to charts, etc synced.

You could also use dropbox (or something similar) to automatically sync your backups to your other machine(s).

Thanks Eric!

I figured it was something simple but wanted to inquire regarding what active traders deem the proper way.

@ericbrown

I recently learned the hard way that the backup & restore functionality is not enough to capture the entire setup. The backup function does not (unless I am going something wrong) copy the 'MyWork' and 'Desktop' folders. When I went to restore, my workspaces and some custom indicators were missing b/c they are contained in these folders. Is there a way to automate this into the backup process or should I be saving data in these folders to somewhere else? Thanks for any tips.

Good info to have and quite surprising. The backup process should include these but I have to admit that its been over a year since I've looked at the backup process...I just set it and forget it.

I use SpiderOak to 'sync' all the data in my Tradestation directories to my backup server (and to the cloud). This allows me to keep all my desktops, strategies, indicators,etc backed up and safe. That said...when i reinstall Tradestation, i have to re-import all of my custom strats and indicators but that is a small price to pay to make sure everything is backed up exactly where I want it to be.

Thanks Eric. I do have an automatic backup system and could access the data from the cloud if need to.

BTW - The Backup option does show these folders to be backed up, but when I restored to a different machine, none of the folders in the MyWork folder where there.
