Howdy--
I've been using my Mac Book Pro 13" with a 1 TB SSD and 16 GB of RAM to power a Windows 7 64 bit environment set up via Parallels. However, I'm beginning to run into problems, and I'm kicking around the idea of buying a used gaming PC on Craigslist and setting it up as a second machine that I would load all NT7 on for backtesting and data storage. I'm a fairly savvy computer user, but I know absolutely NOTHING about setting up a second machine as a server that I would then access with my Mac. I'm only looking to backtest daily and higher data at this point because I can't afford a quality intraday data source that I feel confident backtesting against. So I don't need to co-locate or anything--plus a quality used PC on Craigslist sells for $300 (Quad Core, 8 GB RAM that I'd upgrade, move my SSD over, etc).
Would anyone be willing to offer me a couple of tips--or at least point me in the right direction on how I might set up a second computer for this purpose?
Hell--I don't even know what questions to ask at this point.
Thanks,
Aventeren
