I just wanted to start a thread about some interesting books to take the mind off trading. Please post whatever books you're reading at the moment or simply just your favorite books you'd recommend.
Here's a book I'm currently reading about the a journalist's account of the Vietnam war

It's a novel, and should make a good summer read for anybody interested in markets.
I can hardly wait to read the sequel, Viking Raid. Looks like the author is turning this into a series.
Imagine that, a financial thriller series in which the hero is a hedge fund manager.
While we are on the topic of vikings...
The most amazing novel I have read recently is "The Long Ships," which is a very old historical novel.
Great story, great characters, fascinating milieu. With a big quest for gold. Was made into a movie, but should
be a candidate for a remake.

the book I am starting to read is "Free Rider" by John L. Reynolds...it is a true story told in novel form about a whiz kid on Bay Street (Toronto's financial district) who stole and spent $20million.
Here's another hedge fund thriller that won't take your mind off trading, but I wanted to mention it, in honor of the low VIX:The Fear Index by Robert Harris
This is a book about creating the perfect black box to trade the VIX. It falls apart in the latter half, after the action gets going, but I like the scenes of confrontation between the traders and the lowly risk manager guy inside the firm.
