Has anyone used the MultiCharts version that is now offered by IB? Does this version incorporate the TrueData correction that the regular TWS charts do?

I tried it a few times, but the data feed connection errors annoyed me too much. I found a thread on the EliteTrader board, if I remember right, but the Multichart guy was saying something like "it's Interacve Brokers fault", I could, by that time not extract any helpful information from that thread.

I've tested it and found it worked conveniently with IB, but I dont use it day-to-day since I already have a regular MultiCharts license.

What is TrueData? My TWS charts don't have such an option. MC does has an option called 'generate a new tick if total volume changes' (see here) to reduce IB data spikes, if that is what you mean.

I don't have IB data feed connection errors with MC, aside from the daily server reset at IB themselves. Historical backfilling of data is a limitation because you'll have to take your time for this, but given the cost of IB's data feed this is not so surprising.

IB has two data feeds. The regular "live" feed that generates charting errors because it is a truncated feed and a True Data feed that sends the correct open, high, low and close every five seconds. If you put up a chart in TWS and watch closely the configuration of the bars sometimes changes every five seconds. This is especially noticeable at the start of a bar. Apparently the TWS charts automatically use both feeds but as far as I know, no third party charts do although Sierra has an add-on that does so. It would be nice if MC built that into the IB version.

the number of data request violation got under my skin. otherwise could be a very useful tool. and the other thing that i didn't like is when they first introduced Multicharts with TWS, Volume profiling was available. but after the update, they blocked it out. now when you try to initiate volume profile, it says "coming soon" but I spoke to someone on the phone and he said there is no plan that they know of. so not sure what is going on there.

Hi, if i may ask a question. did you just leave the chart on while the historical data got populated? all at once? one at a time? i am trying to use it for futures charting and chart trading because looking at ToS and executing on IB DOM is annoying. but i gave up after endless data request violations.

many thanks in advance.

haljordan,
what chart type and how many days back did you load? Tick based charts will create a pacing violation after trying to load more than a couple of days at a time. So this might take a while if you are trying to download several symbols and several days.

ABCTG

i was trying to load a 1600 tick chart for 5 days.....it was taking too long with pacing violations. then i tried to do a 4 min chart for about 5 days. slow again. 15 min. very slow.

and all this only for ES. then i tried some forex pairs on longer time frames and very slow there as well.

Another thing that i got stuck at was I use some basic indicators like ATR trailing stop, True Strength Index and Vortex.
And i tried to google them but was unable to find it. so i am still stuck with ToS. watching one and trying to execute on the other is supremely difficult for me. especially with that antiquated DOM they provide.

haljordan,

I can only speculate there, but maybe MC was still trying to load the tick data within the Quotemanager when you switched to the minute chart. When the pacing violation kicks in you are on hold for all new data requests anyway.
All in all I agree though loading data via IB can take a lot of time, especially when it's intraday data.

ABCTG
