Where did this came from? is this originated by the owner of this forum? or it was just posted several members and it was just appear there. I will be using it.BIAB!=)
I read a thread where someone used the term 'car' in reference to a futures contract. AS a newbie, this term threw me a curve ball so i went looking for and found this definition:
CAR:
A loose quantity term sometimes used to describe a the amount of a commodity underlying one
commodity contract; e.g., "a car of bellies." Derived from the fact that quantities of the product specified in a
contract used to correspond closely to the capacity of a railroad car.
some more. i trade from london so also a bit of trading room slang...
hit the bid / e.g. "I hit the 5 halves" - sell at the bid, "hitting" it down
lift the offer eg "I lifted the 20 evens" - buy at the offer, "lifting" it up
fat finger - to enter an order incorrectly on your terminal
yours - I sell to you (e.g. yours in your size - I'll sell you as much as you want). Mine is the buy equivalent.
left hand side (eg you want to deal on my left hand side in $10m cable?) another name for the bid
right hand side - another name for the offer
all done? - mostly said at completion of a deal over the telephone to make sure its finished before hanging up
2 way price - said to a market maker with a deal size, for example - "make me a 2 way price in 50m doller/yen" - quote me a price at which you will buy or sell this amount in this instrument
puke - to liquidate a position for a loss, usually in a bit of pain. not a measured exit.
hi-ticking (or low ticking) - when a print (trade) is done at the high or low of a recent move with the intention of triggereing stop orders
given / taken - same as hit/lifted - e.g. its been given 500 times at 08 -> 500 contracts have hit the bid of 08 (also in response to a quote - e.g. trader "whats your price for $25m euro?" dealer : "$25m euro 05/7" trader "I'll take em" (I'll buy them at 07)
havin a giraffe - having a laugh - you've got to be kidding
happy days - basically, cool. "I managed to scratch my bor spread in the end - happpy days"
scratch - exit a trade at breakeven or v small profit/loss, usually involves having to work orders on the exit
