I recently downloaded Ninja Trader to begin learning the program/capabilities. I'd like to play with the features, but it seems the "end of day" data available from the free version of Kinetick is limiting. What is the best way for a new trader to get access to real time data for testing in sim mode?
I emailed the folks at Optimus Futures thinking I might be able to open an account to get access to the data, but was essentially told to get lost! I guess I can appreciate the fact that they will not make any money off of someone that isn't actually trading real dollars, but I would have thought parking $5k in an account would have been a good enough show of faith and eventual intent. Onward and upward..
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I had the same issue, in reality you can download level1 and level2 prices for free. Of course not live prices because that's the data you must pay for, but for historical dates the data is there for you.
Once you've loaded this from the NT servers you can connect to market replay connection and you'll see all the intra day and tick data in your charts and you can sim trade to your hearts content or backtest as you wish.
I'm a beginning trader (been paper trading for a while) and was browsing through the threads on various brokers/datafeeds. I've heard good things about Optimus/Rithmic and was considering them, so I'm curious as to why Optimus did not want to accept you as a customer. Why would they tell someone to "get lost" (even if that's not the terminology they used, it's the intent that counts). I'm close to opening my trading account but don't want to spend my time trying to convince a particular broker (or argue with him) about why he/she should allow me to open an account. There are other choices out there in that case.
We don't argue, and/or use vulgar language with customers and/or users. Yes, it does happen (VERY RARELY) that we reject accounts based on the customer's intentions. However, this is because of a sincere approach that we might not be the best of matches for them in the long run, and it's done in the best interest of the customer. In the ideal world, I wish we could accommodate everyone, but in reality we want to make sure that those that we bring on board, get the best service out there. Optimus understands that there are periods where customers needs to learn, play with the platform and learn features until they feel comfortable, so we try to be the most accommodating in that regard.
Matt

Your courteous and professional manner of responding is consistent with what I've been reading elsewhere in the forums in regards to Optimus. I'm sure you are a great place to work with, and when the time comes (soon) I look forward to possibly opening an account with you. Thanks!
hi
Before opening an account or think over whether you are ready to trade and you know this business enough?
if you just want to study price movements at intervals of about a minute, I advise you to see https://www.cmegroup.com
* If investing gets too difficult for a seventh grader to understand, the system is needlessly complex
* Markets produce an enormous volume of information, much of which is redundant
* In every game and con there's always an opponent, and there's always a victim. The trick is to know when you're the latter, so you can become the former
To clarify, I was referencing my parallel experience in trying to EOD Kinetick data in NT7 not regarding Optimus. I did not have an application rejected. I personally did not consider their customer service up to standard so I decided not to use them. E.g., some delayed responses to communications and other things I didn't deem professional. Completely agree in treating people as well as you’d like to be treated at all times and I really believe in professionalism in our business.
Honestly I was considering using Optimus, they look great on paper. However I was making quite uncontroversial comments on this forum in no-way rude nor aimed at anyone and I was getting quite insulting comments from matt because he took my comments in a way they were not intended at all and I felt that was unprofessional behaviour. For me that's not how a professional firm should treat potential clients in-spite of their personal views and a red flag started waving for me. Just my opinion you may think differently.
Look I think if you are looking to use them they'll happily accept you as a customer and I’m sure and provide decent rates you may even have a different service experience, perhaps I spoke to him at a bad time who knows. But for me the values of people I deal with and their treatment of customers at all times are important, because I try to treat people as well as I would want to be treated. And I made a call and for me it wasn't something I was happy with in my interactions with this vendor.
