I have downloaded and used various bar types from nexusfi.com (formerly BMT) with some success:
UniRenko Bar: A great way to track diagonal swing movement
Brick Bar: A great way to track range or sideways movement
I need a variation on the Brick type that has the following attributes:
1. Diagonal Bad!: Need all 90 degree angles, and no 45 degree diagonal movement: I want to connect all bricks sideways moving with single larger vertical bars. Let us assume the brick bar is on a tick measurement rather than time measurement. Once the tick measurement setting is broken, bricks start building on an angle or diagonal till the tick measurement trades again sideways. I want this new ugly brick to have a single vertical larger bar connecting these sideways channels. No diagonal movements at all, only vertical and horizontal. Yes, this will be the ugliest chart every, but meets my objectives of isolating all vertical movement to the fewest bars possible, while allowing sideways movement to stay the same as a regular brick bar type.
2. Bonus setting: Dynamic versus static preset units of measurements: when I use the Brick bar type, typically I will use as a 2 tick brick bar preset (see Ninja Trader screenshot attached). Except other than Volume there are no options for bar types that allow the bar to breath in size with changing market conditions. I want the Brick Size option on NT to be dynamic versus static. For example, much like Bollinger Bandwidth that measures Standard Deviation (SD), if one could use a SD output that would produce (rounded up) a whole number and this number would increase and decrease with the market movement as to this new dynamic Brick bar size. That would produce different size brick bars based on the variable bar size as SD increases and decreases.
Some might say that what I am looking for already exists closer to a Point and Figure bar type. Oh contraire; Point and Figure does not measure the same with top and bottom channel lines the way a Brick bar draws in real time.
Summary: All movement on the chart is at 90 degrees. The close of the green bricks is the high, and the close of all red bricks is still always the low, like a regular Brick. All sideways brick movement is exactly as current Brick bar type (see screenshot below) as if the bar size setting is static. As an additional bar setting option, one can chose various dynamic setting like standard indicators that can produce whole numbers like SD.
