When I started out, I was trading when I could, in between recording sessions at the studio and
at the house during down time. A lap top was the only feasible way. It was easy enough to haul a 17"
svga and another usb powered monitor back and forth along with the laptop . No problem.
I have stuck with the rig, because it simply works. I have an i5 processor and just trading the NQ as
I do, It is more than enough horse power to run all my charts, Gomi MP and a couple of DOM's. The average
cpu draw is about 10%. So, needless to say, I hardly need a water cooled, fuel injected bone crusher to
do my work.
I actually like the idea of being able to tear down and be out the door in 15 minutes.
If I wanted or needed to trade at a different location, I'm out.
So it looks like I will be a lap topper for a while .
So here are the questions .
1. How many lap toppers are out there?
2. What brand / model to you use?
3. What is your dream machine?
I just want to log up some data so I can get the perfect machine the next time around , although my HP
works like a dream compared to the Mac book / Bootcamp set up I started on. Now the Mac would
break a sweat during high volume !! .. given, it is a lesser machine processor wise. That Macbook still
runs like a champ. (the old black or white models)
So, I have an HP EliteBook 8460p

8 gig RAM
500 g HD
vga out for an older monitor
usb out's for the others.
I researched this machine well and it was the best bang for the buck at the time..

Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
My Sony is very portable and does well away from the office.
The Lenovo will be a 'coffee shop' trading device.
(it has 4G I don't trade over public wifi)

I trade via a Macbook Air, connecting to a VPS in Chicago. For my trading, 1 Xeon core and 4 GB of RAM is more than adequate to trade through Ninjatrader. I can trade from anywhere or when I'm at my desk, my laptop is connected to a 27 in Dell monitor.
For me, this eliminated the need to worry about having the greatest internet connection and backup power. I also don't need to upgrade my hardware as often. I've never had a connection problem with the VPS, but I know that is a (small) risk.
My dream laptop is the Lenovo W540 connected to a few of their new 21:9 displays.
I'm pretty focused on automated trading but I'm still interested in multi-display laptops. I created this thread in an effort to try to list any laptops that are capable of 4-7 high-resolution displays:

This will be my main workstation for the next five months, since all of my bigger servers can't ship on the container until after my visa is approved (90 days) and then takes another 6-8 weeks to receive.
I am trading off an Asus i5 with 14" screen. Waiting for my "extra screen" to arrive in a day or 2. Had a difficult time getting a lenovo lt1421, so went with Gechic 1302 instead. Then I can have my longer time frame chart on the extra screen instead of clicking to and fro from the main screen.
Would you mind sharing your VPS details? I am curious as I am looking to move away from my PC back to my Mac and have not found a good solution that I like for this yet....
