Windows firewall blocking NT?

Why now after thousands of prior log-ins?

Is it safe to simply click allow access or is their a better action? I know @vegasfoster, remove NT install whatever you use...besides that?

yes go ahead and allow. you must have gotten a windows update that did something to your firewall settings. my computers are win7 and fully updated and haven't had any of those problems. so who know what the real story is. bottom line is that something happened and you need nt7 to be able to communicate.

why is the public network box checked?

don't know why public is checked. it should not be. but the private should be checked for both of those occurences.

@wldman

do this. Open your Windows control panel and click on "System and Security".

Click on "Windows Firewall"
Take a picture of that window that comes up and post it here.

intuitively, I would never click or accept anything that gave access over a public network. So, these seetings are more than a little queer in my view.

ok...the issue is that Windows firewall nor Microsoft have anything to do with the way your firewall is being managed. That screen is showing that McAfee is managing your firewall NOT Windows. If you notice the "Public Networks" shows it as being "Connected". Suggest you look at your McAfee Firewall settings and set the public networks in McAfee to not connected as well assuming your computer is at home and you don't have access to public networks. That should cause Windows to reset public network to not connected and prevent those messages from coming up.
